I just finished putting the elderbrock 5504 muffler on my bike. Iam really happy with the sound. I did have a carbon fiber jardine on it but sold it to get this. I had heard the elderbrock had a deeper tone and thats what I wanted. The elderbrock is deeper and just slightly quieter. I find myself upshifting less because at 2000 rpms it makes a beautiful low resonating sound. I still need to make some brackets to hang the front fascia back on. I was also considering redoing the turndowns. I used 2" turn downs but am wondering if 2.250 would give me a better sound. I should just leave well enough alone but its not in my nature. | ||

i did my own,and kept the jardine chin fairing mount and priced the jardine really low. i like the muffler idea,makes it easy to try different mufflers if the one is no good on its sound and tone etc. mine costs all of 120 dollars stock is 360 jardine is 150 ish others can be upwards of 800. i'll work with what i have . | ||

hey johnny, do you have any pics. you could put up? i have a 5504 that i got about a year ago with the intent of making one for my bike. any info & pics. would be greatly appreicated.(inlet, turndowns etc.) thanks | ||

I'll see if I still have the measurements to the Jardine brackets I measured with our CMM last year. I made some 3D models at Hals request when they were going to do a muffler project that never really saw the light of day. | ||

Joel, I'll get some pics tomorrow. I used 2.125 od pipe from summit racing. It took one J bend with some left over. The fit was great although I did have to hone the ID a little bit with a sanding roll where it slipped over the collector. For the turndowns I used one 2" stainless J bend that I got from summit as well. I should have used 2.125 but that seems like an oddball size. It took me 4 hours but I need to paint it still to cover up my amateur tig welds  Steve, it would be awesome if you had some drawings. Even better if they were dwg. or dxf. | ||

Is there a list of compatable mufflers for this application. I have looked and have been unable to locate one. I have also looked everywhere for the edelbrock 5504 and the 5514. I know the 5504 was discontinued, however I thought they were still making the 5514... | ||

look at magnaflow mufflers.i had a thread here with my info and the part number.streetrod mufflers are a good place to begin looking for a compatible muffler. | ||

here is mine.got a new noise today,seems the bracket at one end broke, and the sleeve clampy thing slipped a bit,and the rear bolt mount was a bit loose.took fairing off and some pics. my 120 dollar - ish muffler  | ||

Both scoops should of came with your bike, the left one makes a huge difference in temperatures. Oh well.  | ||

I meant Id like to have a right one shaped like the left one. I have both. I took them off for the hell of it. My fan hasnt came on yet this year until I shut the bike off. Weve been in the lower to mid 80's though. Froggy, do have any spare uly pegs you want to part with? | ||

Brian, I guarantee that if you don't get a front hanger on that pipe, you'll be: 1)rewelding the muffler front or 2)replacing your header or 3)replacing your broken head studs. or 4)all of the above. One of our contributors here from years back (wyckedflesh) has an elbow that is largely titanium now from the accident that he had when the front of the muffler dropped to the ground when it failed. mine is broken,but i also have a 3 inch clamp for the header to muffler elbow joint.about 30 seconds with a welder and it will be fixed. i actually bolted mine in place brackets first the fit the muffler then added the elbow so there was no tension on the exhaust system to crack and break.i am also pondering a small piece of cable as a safety feature incase anything breaks the cable will keep the muffler off the ground and out from under my tire. | ||

Definitely build a "proper" front muffler mount. A record in Muffler Pole Vaulting is not going to be fun and most certainly will be painful. | ||

I made a front mount for the muffler today. Basically a half inch by one inch diameter stainless rod drilled and tapped and welded to the muffler. Then I made an 1/8 thick stainless bracket to tie it to the motor. I found some neat paint at the auto parts store. High temp rustoleum. I was going to go with black but thought this may look a little different.      | ||

Id honestly consider using this paint on the headers. Says its good to 2000 degrees. The headers are already stainless so no worries about rust. |
