More and more lately the clubman question has been coming up, most recently with the CR bars on a lightning. just remember this is a fairly inexpensive mod to do with standard 7/8 clubman bars. i was messing with my camera earlier and when i played back the video realized i had some pretty good views of the clubmans on my bike. I have been running these for 2 seasons now, and will never go back. Just figured id share it, at least it will archive and be around when people search.
7/8" Bikemaster clubmans $17.00 2 1/2" Precision Engineering riser $30.00 and about 2hours of your time.
as long as you ride correctly, and not carry all your weight on your arms, longer 300+ mi runs are no problem. The taller risers help put the bars up at a very comfortable height, yet they are set even more aggressively than the firebolt or crossroads bars.
I'd like to know if you were able to use the stock cables or had to switch to the shorter Firebolt cables as well.
Ustrque, nice bars and nice sounding bike! Do you know if the Jardine Carbon fiber exhaust has the same repacking problems the aluminum Jardine can has or does the Carbon Fiber last longer?
Lone- i got 7k out of the original packing in the pipe, and since then have repacked 3 times in the past 2 months with a few different things, it is now completely empty. i am gonna make one last attempt at repacking it with wood stove gasket rope (something i saw in the "old school" board) to see if i can save it. All in all i will say that the pipe has taken a beating and survived much better than the aluminum version does. Even running empty it is still rock solid and in perfect shape.
Ustorque, I read somewhere here that packing it with Stainless Steel Wool (has to be stainless)will last a long time...not sure what thread it was but it was here. The stainless steel wool will not deteriorate as quick as the usual packing materials. they are cheap too.
I did exactly the same comversion but used the 1 inch risers then had to fab some spacers from Lowe's. A couple of action shots:
I ended using the CityX clutch cable on my conversion. Like Ustorque stated, if you ride properly long distances are not a problem, although starights do tend strenous in the fact that not moving around is boring to my old bones. But the difference in the curves is unbelievable. I am a fixing to dis assemble my bike very soon, and will have the riders and spacers for sale. Still havn't decided to sell the clubmans or not. They might make a good addition to the Z
