Just bought a new battery in May. Noticed it wasn't starting right. Tried to take off my negative connector to clean it and the actual nut between the screw and the battery melted. When I was trying to take the bolt out it snapped off. What are my chances that HD will replace this? |

Couldn't hurt to ask. Bring it in and see what they say. |

Do you have any idea what could have caused this? So I would not run through the ordeal again. Thanks in advance! |

I've been doing some research. Loose connector or voltage regulator. I'm hoping its just a loose connection. I will check with a voltage meter tomorrow. Anyway can I tap out the hole to the negative terminal? Its a brand new battery and they are not going to replace it. Anyone done this? Thanks! |

I think they have a 6 month warranty. Don't quote me on that but there should be hope for you |

Most the time battery and tire warranties are with the manufacturer of the product. . . at least with cars. |

revision 03/09 Harley-Davidson warranty manual. Battery - Over-The-Counter Replacement motorcycle batteries that are sold over-the-counter carry a 12 month warranty from the date of purchase. The first 6 months will be covered by Harley-Davidson Motor Company and the remaining six months is the responsibility of the dealership based on the below Adjustment Table. If during the first six months of warranty the battery is found to be defective in materials or workmanship it will be replaced without charge, labor is not included. After six months, but within the 12-month warranty period, the battery will be replaced by the dealership and the purchaser charged only for the period of ownership based on the regular price at the time of return, prorated over the number of months of ownership. This is voided by the use of rejuvenators, improper electrolyte, neglect or abuse, including sulfated batteries. Adjustment Table Month Battery Failed Prorating Factor 7th month .72 8th month .77 9th month .82 10th month .87 11th month .92 12th month .97 Example: If a battery with a suggested retail price of $ 44.70 failed during the seventh month, the calculation would be: 44.70 multiplied by .72 = $ 32.18 Cost to the Customer. This does not cover Batteries damaged due to an issue not controllable by Harley-Davidson or the manufacturer. Yes this means the consumer. |
