My cousin tried telling me the battery doesn't recharge as I ride, but I thought it does. Can someone confirm either way? |

Yes it charges. At idle the charging system is barely making enough juice to keep the bike running. (Message edited by 46champ on June 24, 2009) |

your cousin could not be more wrong. blast your tunes as loud as you want. but i would throw a electrical do-hickey in there so you don't drain the battery all the way down to where it won't start the bike. i have push started mine on several occasions, but it is like -20 cool points each time. -30 for failed attempts. |

Your cousin wouldn't happen to own a GSXR with energy drink in the tank, would he? |

Think about it for a few minutes. It takes energy to start your bike. It takes energy to run the electronics on the bike. If your battery does not charge from the bike, where does the power come from? If you are one of the many who has had the charging system fail or work intermittently, you find out fast that the battery can only keep the bike running for so long. |

Nope Buell has incorporated solar technology into the molded in color body work. Leading to the exclusion of the stator and rotor, leading to less weight and a faster overall product. |

I thought the 2010s were getting their own nuclear reactor. |

No the nuclear reactor is too heavy, they will be using a Mr. Fusion instead. |

Nice i was wondering how we would get the 1.21 "gigawatts" needed for time travel 88 mph here we come!! |

I heard Buell has perfected "zero point" energy and the battery actually powers the whole bike. |

The noise when you shut off is the Buell capturing Solar Wind. Beautiful isn't it. |

I've heard that you can run any oil with no damage to the flux capacitor in the new models. |

Yes, the bike recharges the battery. I think that you need to run [ride] the bike [above idle] for about half an hour to an hour to recover the load from starting. Short runs will not give the battery a good, deep recharge. A battery tender is your friend. Also, to note, the ECM does not like low voltage and you'll notice engine stumbles/misses & wonder why... |

Thanks for all the help on this guys. I'm looking into getting a voltage shut-off switch and I have a tender that I'm gonna start using more. I knew that it had to recharge itself, but my cousin INSISTED that they don't...time to set him straight!!! He does that alot about things. He has a Ninja 500...wimpy but not true squid yet |

You know, I knew this street guy that could make a living of your cousin. He'd stand outside your cousin's place every morning and say, "I charged your bike for you, that'll be five dollars." Guy used to show up after my shift at a summer job of parking lot attendant and stand at the closed booth, underneath the closed at nine pm sign and collect money for the rest of the night. Did quite well at it. |

Flux Capacitors are SO "Michael J. Fox." I'm hoping the new models have an Oscillation Overthruster! |

Oscillation Overthruster Ha, the best sci-fi (before Serenity), made sure that it was the first DVD I actually bought just so it could be honoured. |

Good lord. Tell him it only charges when the key is on with the engine off. The headlight will turn off automatically once the battery is fully charged. |

Wow, this thread may have just diagnosed a problem I'm having. I've been having a problem with the bike running bad recently and having trouble during start up. I've done a recent TPS reset. I've justed started riding to work and back on a regular basis when I started having the problem. Work is only 3 miles away and I haven't done a longer trip recently. Could it be the battery is getting low because of the frequent short trips?? |

Low voltage from the battery will cause rough running and an occasional burp (miss) - very disconcerting when leaned into a turn! I preach a battery tender for this as much as general battery health. I learned of this while riding with someone who works at the factory a few years ago. My bike has run great ever since. Another thing that will set it out of sorts is a rapid change in air temperature. For instance - you stopped & parked it when the sun was up and it was hot out, then start it up and go home after sunset. It'll run a little goofy for about 10-20 minutes until the computer readjusts the fuel mixture. This ain't no simple, carb'ed bike anymore. |

I've also noticed that when the battery is fully charged my bike starts and idles at a constant RPM until warmed up. When the battery is slightly low it will start but the idle will dip about three times and then recover without stalling, until the bike is warmed up. |

+1 on battery tender. the junior model is great - at <$30, it'll easily pay for itself in battery life and for the enjoyment of having the bike able to run any time you get half-decent winter weather (for those of us who have winters). |

Great post Midknyte. I think you may have saved me some time and money. Will be getting a tender, it just makes sense. |

I bought the Jr. when they had it on sale at Motorcycle Superstore. Great product.I switch it back and forth between the bike and Trans Am because I boviously can't drive them at the same. sigh. I guess we all have our crosses to bear. |

Driving a bike and a Trans-Am boviously is the only way to do it at the same time. Ohio, you aren't trying hard enough! |
