How much should the first service cost? I would do it myself but the owners manual says the warranty is void if not done by a dealership. The dealership I bought my 09 XB12Scg said it would be about 200 bucks. Seams high but I don't know. My first bike was a 08 blast. So any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

200 is not too bad, Mine was under 300. I let them do the first one. Someone else will think it is too much. Does the manual really say the warranty is void? |

$300 seems to be the average price of a 1k service based on past postings.

Right from the owners manual. |

The 1,000 mile service was my last one at the dealer. These Xbs are just too easy to work on, they aren't making money off me. |

$200 sounds really good to me. 1000K service was my first and last dealer service as well. I did it for the warranty but as Dbird29 says, it's too easy to change my own oil etc.. to continue paying someone else to do it for me. With the shop manual I was even able to do my forks myself. Plus it's always done to my satisfaction With all that said, I still believe in the first service being done by the dealer. (For warranty purposes only). |

That quote from the manual states that the initial service at 1000 miles is required to maintain the warranty, but it does not say it HAS to be performed at a dealer. Save your money, do it yourself. |

Mine was a bit more then that! I felt good about bringing it in, they found belt damage I didnt notice and put a new belt on. Im doing my own oil in between services but currently still plan to let them service it at the regular intervals, atleast while its under warranty... then maybe Ill space it out a bit (every 10,000 miles). |

it does not say it HAS to be performed at a dealer. +1 They can not legally require you to preform the service at a dealer to keep the warranty in effect. Nor can they require you to use Harley Davidson oil. Nor can they refuse warranty work on you engine because you use aftermarket brake pads. That doesn't mean they wont try and imply it. |

Yep, as far as I know BMW cars is the only one that does no cost maintenance on some models. You can do it yourself, just buy your crap from the dealer, document everything including mileage. This will protect you and the dealer. If you don't do the service, and then at 3000 miles the engine grenades, the dealer and just say "Sorry, you didn't have the service done, you are on your own." At least if you document everything/show receipts you have a leg to stand on. |
