My 2006 XB12Scg is approaching 61,000 miles. The original drive belt is still in service and looks good! The BMC said there was no scheduled replacement for this belt. What is the service life of a belt (06+)? The motorcycle has been used for commuting primarily and ridden conservatively; nothing that would shock or strain the belt. Should I replace it? |

if it looks good, i would still use it. My belt lets my tensioner spin freely, but the belt still looks good, so i still use it and i only have 21,000 miles |

I'd replace it and maybe keep the old one as a spare. My 06 belt lasted 14 or 15K I think. Yours might last another 60K, but I doubt it. I don't know what the average service life is. 30K?? It's pretty easy to throw a new one on. They are about $170-180. Better to take care of it at a time of your choosing instead of break down out in the middle of nowhere and then not be able to ride for a week or two while waiting for parts and time to fix it. |

At 61k I would buy the new belt and change it before any long trips. |

People have reported breaking one at 10K and you have 6 times that. You just saved over $1000 by not letting paranoia get to you. If I was going on a road trip I might buy a spare and bring it with. I would run it till it breaks. I know I could change it in about 5 minutes with about 4 toold which I do carry. |

From '06 onward, the belt is supposed to be a lifetime item. |

04 Racing Buell has 17,000 street/track miles on the belt. 08 Street Buell had 17,000 miles and the belt let go for no apparent reason. Of note, I have actually had more issues with the 08 than the 04. |

I have an '04 with 15k and the belt's getting a little loose. Can the new "infinite life" belts be used on earlier models? |

Works on the 04's but not 03's right? |

Correct. 04-2009 XB 52" models all use the same sprockets and the belts are all interchangeable. To get it to work on an 03 you need new front and rear sprocket, idler pulley, belt guards, and the belt. |
