Hi wanting to lower the gearing on my xb12r , found a set off 03 lightning 72 rear 30 front , besides the belt would I run into any problems , Thanx |

Your best bet is to change the primary chain to the one in the XB9 models. Not hard, its proven, and it doesn't require anything to compensate for the speedometer. |

You'll need the 03 idle pulley, and the weaker 03 belt. |

what do u mean about the weaker belt , will the 04 xbr fit with the 03 xbs idle pulley |

To lower gearing you need to change the primary chain and sprocket like froggy said.(which has been best proven simple mod for the 12's. There is no upgrades for your belt system on your bike. The same one is still being used on the new xb12's. If you wanted to change your gearing on your final drive you could get a chain conversion, then yous possibilities are endless. |

what do u mean about the weaker belt The 03 belts were made by Gates. The belts were pretty famous for only lasting about 5000 miles or so. Also you had to be careful with how you handled the belt when removing the rear wheel. After 04 Buell went with Goodyear(?), and the belts last much much longer. They even offer a lifetime belt now. In 04 Gates upgraded their belt, it's lasts a lot longer now. I'd swap, if I had all the parts to do it. |
