We got an incredible deal on an 08 XB12 for my girlfriend. Low mileage, year of warranty left, literally like new. Took it in for the 1k svc. The check engine light was on and tech said he reset the ECM. Here's the prob. It is only getting about 35 mpg and she doesn't ride aggressively at all. We're taking it back and gettin it checked out, but in the meantime, has anyone here on the board had similar problems? |

From what I've read on here the bike gradually gets better mileage as it breaks in.I have a 2005 that had 5700 miles on it when I got it.I never gotten less than 50 miles to the gallon.I have read where it is normal for the mileage to be in the 30's for a while.Peace |

I get bad mileage with my 08 XB12, but it's still cheaper to fill up my bike than the truck. |

I have an 08 cg also. Last 08 on the floor and only 8 miles on it back in November. I put about 1200 miles on it through the winter, and have seen the mileage increasing. It started in the 30's and I stopped monitoring lately. I've gone from ~90 miles before the reserve light goes on to 135 miles on my last road trip. |

my 08 scg was nothing but problems... customer service was no help and i traded it in..if yours is an early build date, it could be a lemon.. |

Or a bad IAC or ECM. Its starting to look like a trend with them not being good from the factory. Being that both of these items are new on 08 models, it is not surprising that there might be an issue with them. It looks like swapping them (nothing complex) can resolve the issue. I would love to pick up one of these "lemon" 08's cheap so I could fix it cheap. |

We have an '09. Just under 2000 miles. Mileage has also been bad, particularly around town(go figure). But it has progressively improved and we just did a trip to Austin, Tx and were seeing 50mpg on the highway. As it breaks in further, it will improve. |

The check engine light (CEL) usually has a specific meaning and resetting the TPS is usually just one of the steps. See if you can find out from the tech what the specific code was. I get the impression that there is a huge range of tech skill out there, judge by the answers what his skills are. If the problem isn't really fixed, the CEL will come back. Post that when it happens and see what the board comes up with, or a different dealer. You make it sound like she rides very conservatively. There's a sweet spot around 4000rpm that the engine wants to be in. Try and get out to an area where she can ride in that range for about half an hour so the ECM can set itself. |

I have not had any problems with my 08 12R. But like others, the mileage has not been great. The best I got on the first 3K was 42 mpg, usually it was low-mid 30's. As it approached 5K the mileage was more consistently low 40's. Best was 49 on a long trip with little stops. I wouldn't connect the mileage with your check engine light. And the engine does like it between 3500 and 4500 best. |

For whatever reason, your mileage seems to be what others have experienced. My '08TT got something in the 35mpg range on the first tank. As miles accumulated, the mpg's got better. Finally, at the 5k area, I got into the 50mpg range. Last tank (spent mostly in 4th gear and about 10mi in 3rd, while teaching another rider about 'pace' and looking through corners)resulted in 44.9mpgs. Have done better on long trips. Still about 10% less than my tuber. |

On my '08 XB12Ss it started out at around 35 mpg. Mine took a long time to break in, but by the time I got to 3,000 miles I was getting about 55 mpg on the freeway cruising at around 70 mph. Mixed driving, I get in the mid 40's, and in city stop and go I get around 38 mpg. Hard to get go get good gas mileage when you are sitting at a "red" light at every other block! I have a Drummer exhaust and have done the breather mod, but do not think that makes a big difference as far as mpg goes, but it sure makes the bike run better. Give it time and the mpg will come up. |

I have an 09 Firebolt getting consistantly 45 mpg. Got 50 mpg one time. Never got less than 42 mpg. I cruise at 80 to 90mph on highway with combination city driving as well. I got 2,200 miles on it only 3 weeks old. I'll bet if I shifted at 3,000 rpm everytime and cruised at 65 or 70 I would get over 50mpg everytime. |

Lamar, definite +1 on the 4000rpm sweet spot. My '08scg loves it. Milage increased over time and it's also an early build. |

Last ride, my Blast only got 70mpg...what is wrong?? Ok...I was straight lining on the highway at 60...the ride before that which was way twisty..I got a more respectable 50mpg . And I like Okra...I am sorry...work is making my brain turn to mush... (Message edited by fast1075 on June 15, 2009) |

I have an 09 SCG and just got up to 45 mpg on the last tank. I have 2,600 miles on it now. When I first got the bike I was getting 35 mpg. I think as you get the bike broken in it will get better. |

35MPG on an 08 is avg. 08 has a new crank and ecm so dont compare it to the earlier models. I have had mine for a year now and has almost 8k on it as a daily driver. I only get about 32-37. |

Thanx for the sharing your experiences. After running a few tanks thru and putting about a thousand additional miles on it she's starting to break 40+ mpg. Seems odd to me that it would take this much break-in time to make it happen ....... Part of the shock for us, I think, was going from 70+ MPG with her Blast to this. But the smiles this bike brings to her face are unbelievable. She's a happy Bueller for sure!!! |

Just remember she's feeding more than 2 Blasts' worth of displacement now (496cc versus 1203). You'll keep seeing improvements in mileage. That's not just an '08 thing, either - my '06 Uly gets better and better with every tank. |
