What is a 3%er? What does it refer to? I am new to the wonderful world of Buell so please don't laugh at me too much. |

I think Buell is or was at some time 3% of the Harley Davidson sales. So I would imagine any Buell rider is a 3&er. Possibly |

It is just that there is a 3% section in storm fronts, and I don't know what it means. Am I a 3%? What is a plethora? Do I have a plethora? |

Pokinatcha is correct. 3% referred to the amount of Buell's contribution to the total number of Harley sales at the time. The 3% section in Storm Fronts is the name they took under that basis. Finally, most folks know what a 1%er is, so it has been suggested that the 3%er moniker was a tongue in cheek play upon that as well. |

I think 3% correlate to certain year Buells? Only the hand made ones i believe. And doesn't 1% refer to outlaw biker gangs?!?!?! Name applied by AMA to the 1% of bike riders that cause 100% of the trouble, iirc. |

Yes, 1 percenters refers to the "outlaws": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorcycle_club#One_P ercenters There are also theories in social psych that suggest that 3% of the population are the "above average" group that raise the bar and hold such positions as controlling 97% of the money in world, etc. I think that the only real place that 3% is used is the club referred to above, the rest of the time most people mean to refer to the 1%ers as I quoted it. |

The plethora question was a quote from "The Three Amigos" Sorry you did not catch that... Thanks for bringing me up to speed on the 3% thing. |

El Guapo: Would you say I have a plethora of pinatas? Jefe: Oh yes, you have a plethora. El Guapo: Jefe, what is a plethora? El Guapo: Well, you told me I have a plethora. And I just would like to know if you know what a plethora is. I would not like to think that a person would tell someone he has a plethora, and then find out that that person has *no idea* what it means to have a plethora. Three Amigos! (1986) |

Back in 2003 Buell made up 3% of H-D's total profit. Some were saying that was a disappointing number, and a debate started up. During the debate I came up with the idea of making 3%er patches, a play on the 1%ers. In 2004 we talked SMH-D&Buell into sponsoring a BRAG club. The 3%er's BRAGging Rights Club was born. At one time we were well over 30 strong. The first year we were together we started March Badness. March Badness has been going on now for 6 years, and MB-5 was the biggest with around 500 people from all over. As far north as Canada, as far west as Texas, as far south as Key West. Last year it got totally rained out. When BRAG was discontinued, we kept on going, even after the dealership more or less abandon the idea. We're not sure about the future of March Badness. Almost 3 years ago I started BuellToberFest, and all that come like it more than March Badness, as it's always rained at some point during the event. BuellToberFest is sponsored by no one and truly shows the 3%er spirit. Right now we probably have 15 or 20 locals, and many many more from all over. We are a loose group, and have no organizational skills. We like it that way. Am I a 3%er? If you'd like to be, there's plenty of room. We only ask that you enjoy having a good time, have a sense of humor, the only exceptions are, we dislike squid, and are always making fun of them. |

Glitch, I probably need to send you an email one day. I would love to come out again. The thing about April and Oct is the weather out west is iffy at best. Of course that is not saying I will not throw the bike in the truck and go home to NC for a visit before I come out. It is on the way home to CO from NC. I think, to retain my membership in the C3 I need to actually show up in NC once a year. I think I can talk Maximum into coming out as well. |
