I think that it would fit right in. They are the same size. |

Nothing is different, it should bolt right up. The only difference externally is the exhaust valve actuator on the stock 12 muffler. Schmitty |

Hell you could turn the 9 into a 12 by changing the pistons, connecting rods, a few other internals and the ECM. |

the motor will fit, but the swing arm and oil lines may be different depending on the years of the frame and engine. 2003 to 2005 motors will swap out. But if you have a 2005 or older bike, the swing arm and oil lines from a 2006 and up aren't interchangeable. You need the swing arm for the year engine. Confusing, isn't it. |

The best set up would be to take the 9 pistons and put them into the 12 motor, giving you a high compression 12. This is a very popular and reliable set up at the club racing level. Schmitty |

Basically assuming you are swapping into the 04 that your profile says you have, you can swap an engine from 04-05 and use your existing swingarm. 12 engine 06 and up you will need to replace the swingarm. At least that's how I understood it. Somehow it became more confusing when you asked if it was confusing. |

exactly. Only difference is in the oil lines and swing arm depending on the years. Oh yeah. And the oil cooler.......it has to do with the oil line thingy again. Older ones are threaded. Newer ones have the retaining clip. |

for the oil line difference, you can also just use the older style oil lines and fittings to the newer motor |

Not many people know that the only real difference between the XB9 and XB12 is the stroke, so it is no big deal to turn one to the other with OEM parts.
