So i have read how to change it but i don't know what type an how much needs to be added. I was guessing a quart but as i am not a mechanic i figured asking you experts would be best! Thanks in advance for your help. |

So it says in the manual that you need to replace the gasket when changing the trans oil so where can i get one. Is it something i can only get from a dealership? |

I have a few at home, and 99% of the time I forget to bring it when I go to change the fluid. I lost count how many times I have reused mine. If it starts to leak I will change it, takes 5 minutes. I don't even have the part number handy, the parts guy should know what you want. |

I reused mine, no problem. If it looks bad, replace. Available at the dealer. |

I changed to the harley synthetic fluid in the primary and ever since my shifter has been sort of kicking back when shifting at higher rpm's (5000 or so). the fluid seems to be at the exact spec level too. Not sure if It's related to the fluid but figured i'd see if anyone had thoughts. Thx |

I didnt really like my shifting with Syn3 (is that what you are using?) either. Shifted buttery smooth before, but it hasnt bother me enough to take it in. I am still trying to decide whether to do Amsoil (have Royal Purple in now but will be doing Amsoil in the engine) or go back to Formula+ in the tranny. |

I love my Amsoil in the gearbox. Shifts aren't buttery smooth, but finding neutral has NEVER been a problem, never missed a shift and always seams clean even after 7500 miles. My .02 Bruce |

How did the amsoil compare to the formula+? My bike stock (believe stock is Formula+) was not buttery smooth like my R6 was but man did it shift nice. Got it serviced with syn3 and it just got a lot harder, I miss shifts atleast a couple of times a week now, a lot more often earlier on. |

Actually, Froggy's suggestion is almost , but not exactly, correct. While the primary case might take a quart the first time it is filed, usually it takes a bit less. Buell is quite emphatic that the level should be adjusted as follows: "Add only enough of GENUINE Harley-Davidson FORMULA+ TRANSMISSION AND PRIMARY CHAINCASE LUBRICANT (Part No. 98851-05 quart) through clutch inspection cover opening until the lubricant reaches the bottom of clutch diaphragm spring."
Overfilling the primary is said to cause difficulty in shifting. Never tried it myself! I always follow directions. Except when they are wrong.

I usually tip the bike onto its kickstand and balance the bike from left to right to get all the oil I can out |
