guys not sure if I'm in the right section.(knowledge or xb) turned the bike on for first time since the crash and have a few other issues. oil leaked from the oil cooler(?) on the left side, but what I'm more concerned about is the knocking I heard on the left side of motor. the bike is an 05 with only 3k and the noise seemed to go away as motor got warmer. Is this normal? I hope |

I’m still not 100% familiar with Buell or Harley engines, I’ve had my 12r about 9 months now and 5000mi. My bike was making a terrible racket on the left side, I did and engine and primary fluids change and adjusted the primary and knocking gone. It may or may not be what is going on with yours, but it sure wouldn’t take much to remove the inspection plate and look. Cold it should have 3/8-1/2 in and hot 1/4-3/8 in of play up and down. Hope that helps. |

You mentioned a crash? And the oil cooler's leaking? Oil cooler is mounted on the left side... same side as the knock you're hearing... is the primary cover intact? Not cracked or bent in or anything? The primary drive rotates anytime the engine is running, regardless of whether or not the bike is in gear, did you lose any oil out of the primary? The shop manual gives instructions on how to check the level if you're not familiar. The only reason I mention this is it sounds like you might've laid the bike down on it's left side in a crash, and that primary drive is fairly vulnerable down there... |

Could the accident have broken any of the motor mounts? The dog bone looking one in front is one of the weakest. |
