Count me in as a stretched front con-rod owner . I just threw in the '08 crank/conrods and some forged pistons and all is well . Happened about 45K miles... (Message edited by m1combat on June 15, 2009) (Message edited by m1combat on June 15, 2009) |

Were all these engines using the same oil? I'm thinking since it doesn't seem to be a problem here in the states, maybe the Oil is the culprit? Just a thought. |

Did buell switch from the double tapered roller bearing on the sprocket shaft to the single roller like the sportsters did in 04? When harley switched to the single roller on their big twins in 03 some people where having crank failures when they started adding some horsepower.Zippers Performance http://www.zippersperformance.com/catalogue/showpr oduct.asp?cat=850&prod=2065 and some local builders recommend retrofitting the double tapered bearings. The buells put out more horses than the sportsters so maybe they are over stressing the single roller. My 06 uly shows a single roller on the sprocket side in the parts book but I don't know what year they switched. 04 is when they did away with the trap door tranny and the double crank bearing on the sportsters. |

It appears BMC made a attempt to address any potential lower end failures by giving the crank pin a flash coating of silver starting in the 2006 season. This acted as a dry lubricant when the lower end was at max revs and the loading on the rod bearings was extreme due to the very high piston speed. It appears the potential problem was resolved with the '08 lower end having the larger diameter crank pin/bearing which tolerates these high loads. |

This past Summer (2011) my 2004 XB12R created a knocking sound and proceeded to crap out like others experienced here. I have approx 24,000 miles on the bike. Stock motor, with Race ECM and Buell Race exhaust. |
