Was our friend from Louisianna okay?
I missed his crash. I wanted to help you guys out with the trailer, but I was trying to get that F4i sale finished up.

If any of you got his or his wifes contact info can you shoot me a PM. I want to call and make sure hes okay.
Anybody see the crash? How did it happen?

What you guys did for his wife was really admirable, I really wished I could have dropped what I was doing to help out and pitch in.

Not every day you see all the Honda or Yamaha, or Suzuki riders get together to help out a fallen comrade like that.

Phil
oh yeah, it was really great meeting you guys - hope you can make the track day on the 29th.

Keith and I had no trouble loading up his trailer. Really any more hands would have been too many. I gave Gerry's wife my phone number, but have not heard from her. Gerry may have suffered some broken ribs and a pneumothorax (air in the chest/abdomen cavity).

Unfortunately I didn't get a phone number from Gerry's wife. They live in Lake Charles, LA. I'll be calling the hospital in Henderson tomorrow to see if I can learn anything. If he's there and up for it, I may pay him a visit.

The good news is that his bike appeared to be largely unhurt. I hope he heals well and quickly. He's the first expert I've seen race a Buell in the CMRA.

He'll be able to relive the event as often as he likes while he heals up. He had an on board camera. I gotta see that.

Was good to meet you as well Phil. Good luck with that new racebike. It's a good looking bike.

I may not make the track day, but if possible I sure will.

Update,

Gerry's wife just called. He's got four broken ribs and a partially collapsed lung, possible concussion. They may be on their way home as soon as tomorrow. Gerry's obviously in good spirits as he wants to see his video, and has threatened the orderlies who forced him to sit up and raise his arms for X-rays. I feel his pain. Been there, done that.

Turn 7 sure was brutal today.

Wow, I didnt think he got hurt that bad. Im glad he's going to be okay though.

Me and my buddy talked about joining up the CMRA almost the entire 4 hour drive back to Austin. Who knows, you may see me driving around that track with a yellow number some day.

Probably as you go flying by me. ; )

Some background for those who don't know him... Gerry switched from an SV650 to the XB9R this year. He said last year he was normally running in the top five. This being his very first outing on the Firebolt, he was still getting used to the bike, and the track. His first race, D-Superstock (or D-Superbike, I can't recall which) which is the same as LW SB in FUSA/CCS terms (virtually all SV650s) he had trouble getting up to his normal pace. He managed to get Marcus to make a few quick adjustments to the suspension (no fork oil change or anything) which seemed to make a big difference as he was right around 5th place when he went down.

he went down when his bike was hit by another rider who was also injured but not seriously, and less so than Gerry. At the time, the scene was alarming. Both bikes and both riders just a few feet off the track in the fast run-off area, both unconscious. Chris, the other rider, was face down draped over Gerry's XB9R. Gerry was unconcious for what seemed like a good two or three minutes.

First racing event of the year is usually the most savage wrt crashes. People not yet up to speed and tend to push a little too hard to get there. That was not Gerry's case, he got t-boned. That's racing.

I hope he gets back to it.

Regrettably I was not at the races myself as my bike was not ready. However, its very disappointing to hear of a fellow Buell racer down and hurt. Although I don’t know the gentleman in question, I wish him a speed recovery and hope to see him lining up with the rest of us Buell racers in the near future.

In our thoughts
Mark and Family.
