I just finished replacing a stripped spark plug on my bike and the clutch cable. when i did so, i rode into work this morning but the bike seemed to have less power but worse yet is that when i get to 5k, it winds up like i have the clutch pulled in and then gives me all the power at once... can anyone suggest where to start looking?

clutch is slipping.. could be the adjustment on the cable. check that and you can pop the cover off and adjust the screw in the center of the clutch itself too if needed

ive noticed a similar thing hapening on my bike, but I had nothing to compare it too because its always been like that.

It revs high but doesnt seem like im getting the power it should be putting out.

is this an easy fix or something more serious?

Clutch adjusted too tight. Clutch faulty or slipping.

turn the adjuster (at front of motor under accordian boot) until you have slack in the clutch lever

take the clutch inspection cover off (under shift lever), and take out the spring and lock plate (hex head looking thing)

turn the adjustment screw in the center counterclockwise until it stops, and then turn it clockwise 1/4 turn, and then reinstall the lockplate, spring and the cover

then adjust your cable until it takes up the slack in the clutch lever, and tighten the jam nut.

that should be it

turn the adjustment screw in the center counterclockwise until it stops

you mean lightly bottoms. Stops and lightly bottoms is almost half turn difference. This where I get confused, and probably others also.

Can someone who is an expert on the issue please elaborate, and explain the differences in clutch function when the screw is adjusted a half turn from where the screw literally stops, and from where the screw lightly bottoms. Which one allows more slippage?

yes, you're right, that is what it says in the manual. I couldn't remember the exact wording

When you're all done, you should have a very small amount (1/16" - 1/8") of clutch cable free play between the clutch lever and the lever bracket.
