I have a 05 XB9. I bought a new belt last year from a well known supplier. I couldn't even get the belt on so I called him and said yep its tight but it will loosen up. So I did get the belt on and is was way to tight however it did loosen up when the front drive pulley bearing came apart. Anyway 1200 bucks later I put the old belt on and rode the bike. I bought a spring tensioner from trojan horse (great people) put it on and put the new belt back on and it so tight it has bottomed out the spring, it's hitting the muffler and the belt is not way tight but it still tighter than I think it should be. SO I'm wondering if this is really the wrong belt? Here are the numbers on the belt G0500.1AAG. 28636904. 68-12608. They are all the numbers on the belt. There is no new buell on the showroom floor that has a belt this tight. This has to be the wrong belt. I won't bash the place I got it from I just don't think he listening to my cries for help, Because the belt was way to tight and after the bearing gave up I had to push my buell home. I'm lost..........help |

Well, you've got the short frame so unless it's the Blast belt it should fit, my guess. Any pics of the set up? Especially shots of the tensioner set up? |

mine was the same way when I did the 04+ conversion on my 03 XB. Turns out the idler pulley bracket is different too. you didnt somehow get an 03 bracket on there did you? the 04+ version is longer with a slightly different angle.... just a thought.. (Message edited by rah7777777 on May 26, 2009) |

That is the correct belt, and new belts are always tight till they break in. |

So I did get the belt on and is was way to tight however it did loosen up when the front drive pulley bearing came apart My bearing blew out for the same reason. Total rebuild at 5k miles. Sucked. Well, I ran a chain for a while because the belts were just too damn tight, and obviously there is no adjustment. Then I read a thread that someone with the same problem had a bent swingarm pivot bolt. I did crash this thing back in 2004, so I gave that a shot. No help at all. I was a the dealer and thought what the hell, give me an axle bolt for my bike, $55 or so. I rolled the old axle on a flat surface and it looked perfect, but installed the new one anyway. It fixed it! With the new axle I can now run a belt again. If your bike has been crashed or dropped, consider the axle and/or swingarm bolt may be tweaked. Like I said, mine looked perfectly straight, but the new axle fixed the tight belt issue. |
