I've never ridden with headphones on. Seems like a good idea for the long runs..... Any thoughts? Good? Bad? Safe? |

I use my ipod shuffle quite frequently now. Its gotten to be no different than listening to music in my truck. Doesnt seem to effect my riding abilities at all. I use a nice earbud that doubles as earplugs. Work pretty well for riding. Got them at walmart for $20, jvc mushrooms. |

The JVC Mushrooms and the Creative EP630's are good earbuds. The Creatives seem to be a bit more durable. |

Eytomic ER6i in-ear are excellent. Great noise canceling and great sound. I can play my iPod at normal levels using them, but be careful around town, you will not hear emergency vehicles. Chris |

I tried out my wife's Earcandy buds and they sounded great, excellent noise cancelling, but when I put my helmet on it would pull them out of my ears. I bought some Sony's that have a loop that goes over the ear, problem solved. They aren't that great at noise cancellation but they stay in my ear so that's a plus. |

What about the legalities of wearing headphones? I believe NY is legal for one ear only and PA they have to be for communication only. (i know a cop wont see them while your riding but he will definitely see them if he pulls you over) |

Personally I never wear them for 2 reasons: 1) I feel that it is unsafe. It is my opinion that since cagers are clearly not looking out for us, we need to be on highest alert and as sensitive to the environment around us. I just don't see how that can happen with music playing in our ears. 2) I am surrounded by technology and noise all day, every day. I ride to escape it all. |

I sometimes ride with headphones. But keep in mind in some states it's ilegal. Some states you can have one headphone in. Just depends on local leo. I have some $30 jvc headphones that work good. But after getting custom earplugs made, I'm considering getting custom made earphones. But the earphones run $200 wich isn't in my pocket at the moment... |

Sweet. I never thought it was illegal, but then again, in MN it's illegal to Drive a car with headphones. |

I think they're very distracting especially in traffic. I guess that's because I actually listen to the music. That said, I have a chatterbox that I use to plug in my mp3 player on rare occasions while on the highway or somewhere boring. It's nice because you can still hear things going on around you and can turn it off very easily. |

A chatterbox? I'm new to helmet tech- is it like a 2-way for your helmet? Plannin on gettin one for a few long runs this summer, if I can throw my iPod right into it, that sounds like the best idea so far. |

I have ridden with mine alot now. I have motorola s9 bluetooth headphones paired with my phone. No wires = nothing to get in the way. Plus it automatically answers calls while i'm riding so I can talk to people. I don't see how it's unsafe other than not being able to hear horns of other cars...but I don't know if I would be able to anyway with the Jardine can. |

+1 on the JVC 'shrooms. Just got a set, and they do a fantastic job at reducing wind noise. I don't even have to turn up the music to hear it, and they don't fall out when I'm putting on my helmet. And they're cheap. ~SM |
