I know there's another helmet post on here, I just figured the content is different enough to start a new post- I've been looking at the Shoei X-11 and RF-1000. The price differance is substantial. Is it worth it to go with the X-11? Also, I wanted to go with an i'icon Decay (domain2), but I heard they suck!?! It looks cool, but the noise and venting is no good. Any truth to that? Finally, whatever helmet I get, I'll go with a chrome shield (better for eyein' the ladies without being caught!). Is there any issues with a dark smoke shield or a chrome shield that anyone knows about? Are there any helmets that I should check out? There are so many companies it's driving me crazy!! Too many friends have been hurt and killed for not wearing one. Cost doesn't matter- my skull is priceless!! Any input helps- Thanks! |

I have the Icon Domain (first one) and really like it. A little loud maybe but the is enough room around your ears for earmuffs if you wanted! Seen only good reviews on it. Supposedly well built-tri-layer I think? Chrome shield is great for the daytime but too dark at night. |

Kneedraggers.com has some customer reviews on their site, good descriptions of the helmets and what they are made of also. |

I have a RF 1000 and it's a good helmet IMHO. Fits me good and has good venting and very little buffeting at speed. Try on the helmet you want before you drop the cash online. Also look to see if you can get parts locally, shields clips and vent covers, having to order a shield because you beat yours up and it taking a week or more to show up bites! I try and buy locally if I can even if it cost a bit more, after all they are there and can help in person. I have a EXO 400 and it fit OK but is real loud though. I tried the 700 on and it hurt to wear, dug into my forehead. A lot of times spending more gets you features not more safety in the same brand. |

I bought an X-11 because I thought it was more comfortable than the RF-1000. Is it worth the price? I hit the ground while wearing it. I'm still here. |

I had a Icon Domain 1 perimeter helmet in blue and white.. had a crash at 70mph.. my head hit the ground first..on impact all the vents and spoiler on the helmet tore off. Which is normal..Had a 3" cut/gash in the back of the helmet. A ton of scrapes and cuts in the top and sides of the helmet.. and i walked away.. Ill be getting another Icon Domain helmet very soon.. |

the guy i asked about the difference, at the place that sold them, told me to go with the rf, unless i was going to be doing racing, as the x-11 is more aerodynamic and more suited for racing, he told me to go with the rf-1000, if it fit ofcourse, and it did. it is quited then my hjc helmet forsure! |

http://www.webbikeworld.com/ Lots of helmet reviews on there. They take into account comfort, shape, wind noise, weight, and face shield quality. Some helmets give fairly surprising results with a low price point. |

Nice! Thanks, chaos. That site has plenty of reviews on all major helmets. Extensive too. So after all is said and done I'm going with the RF-1000. That Nexx helmet is pretty, ah.....distinct looking. A little too crazy lookin for me though- thanks anyway. Any ideas for night riding? I want to throw on a chrome or dark smoke shield. Should I roll with my clear glasses to wear with the helmet with the shield up or just swap out for a clear shield at night? Sorry, cuz im pretty ignorant about this stuff.....I've never ridden with a helmet- but due to recent circumstances, Ive got to get smart and throw one on. Thanks for all the advise, guys. Any shop out there is on a payroll and will have a bias to go with it. I trust the badweatherbuellers on here to keep the uninformed, informed- so.....thanks!! |

Haha hendro! "Best looking helmet I have ever seen." Yup. Thanks for the help on this subject. But I think he was looking for less important things like fit, air flow, noise, and safety. But I'm with you, bro. Who cares about those things anyway? It's all about looks and colors anyway. I mean helmets are really there to look good. Not to protect the rider. Squid. I have an x-11, rf-1000, arai profile, and a scorpion exo 1000. I use the x-11 for the track. But I only care about safety, buffeting, and airflow at the track. It does the best in two of those areas. My rf-1000 is my street helmet. Hands down! The profile WAS my street until I bought the rf-1000. Now the arai sits on the shelf or a chicks head. You will not be disappointed with the noise(I use a chatterbox and can hear perfect and people hear me just the same) airflow is awesome(big plus on 90+ days on ANY bike) and I have no problems with my chicken neck holding the helmet up at speed. See if it fits your head first before you buy. But that's for ANY helmet. As far as the sheild. THEY ARE NOT CHEAP!!!! I have blue and silver mirrors, clear, and smoke. Mirrors are bout $70. Smoke was a tad cheaper. Just take care of them unless u have an unlimited source of money. LOL |

As for the helmet, ignore the price and try them both. Buy the one that fits better. Price doesn't matter much if you don't want to wear it. As for the shield, the reflective shields are VERY delicate. They will scratch at a moments notice. You will need a clear shield for night riding. I got a visor sock from Aerostich. It is made from soft fuzzy fleece and holds my extra visor perfectly in my tank bag. |

+1 million on finding a helmet that fits your head. for example: most sharks, and scorpions, the Arai profile, Shoei x-11 are of the "long oval" interior shape. my head is a log oval, so these are my main pics.... err whatever you wanna call it a good helmet salesman .... errr, sales-person can eye-ball you noodle. but if not, just see which ones don't hurt yer head. wear it around the store for a half hour. seriously. you can peruse the catalogs while you wait. that way they can't kick you out for not 'shopping' surprisingly i've found ARAI to be the only one that markets the different interior shapes of their helmets. |

+1 to both posts above. 1. Make sure it has SNELL or DOT sticker in it. 2. Put on helmet. 3. If uncomfortable take off and try another one. 4. If comfortable wear for 15 minutes and see if it's still comfortable. If so, then you found a good helmet! Remember - you can't see what the helmet looks like while you're riding so unless you are an egotistical squid then don't worry about it. I prefer white or yellow in the interest of longevity... http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/gearbox/motorcyc le_helmet_review/index.html |

Perfect! I tried on the Rf-1000 and it fits snug. Now I need to go back and wear it for 15-30 min. If it's still good, then that's the ticket. Now if I try one on in the shop and it fits, is it a good idea to save a few hundred and buy the same helmet on eBay? Has anyone had problems with that? |

Don't forget that if you like to have a local bike shop to look at the new cool bikes then it's important to support them. Local bike shops also support other local companies so if you spend money locally, you'll get to keep the benefits locally - no matter how much Barack wants to Socialize (Obamasize?) the nation so support your local industry before the Feds do! Also don't forget how much time and cash you have to spend in return shipping in case there's a problem or turns out it's not a good fit... Don't forget the sponsors here either - I've had great service by them. |

Thought I would chime in and say NOT to go with the chrome visor - especially for night riding. I bought one because it kept the sun out during the day and was transparent enough at night for me to ride home in. Problem was that I kept getting reflections inside the helmet from the lights of cars and other lights in town. It really screws with you when all you see are your own eyeballs and face when behind another car. My solution was the Scorpion EXO 1000 - has the flip down sun visor for daytime and a clear shield I can leave on during day or night. I bought the dark smoke internal visor and love it. Plus it has the cheek pads that pump up for a more "custom" fit. This helmet has a ton of vents as well so it is not that hot to ride in. For the money I spent I love all the features. I believe that HJC makes a helmet that is similar - model FS10. Something to consider if you really want one helmet that will do it all. My .02 |

Jake - I got a nearly new RF-1000 picotte replica when I purchased my 2000 X1. At first I didn't like the helmet because even though it's a Large it seems to fit a lot looser than my other brand Large helmets. After getting Medium size cheek pads though - this helmet is freakin amazing. I highly recommend it. |

2008xb12scg I have never had any bad experience with sport bike track gear. After shopping locally and having a horrible experience I called them. (they are still local to me 2 hours away) they are honest and will return almost anything just don't ride in it) great deals and good advice. they have actually told me to buy cheaper items at times because they were better. down selling? who does that now? Jakecheez but as far as lids I have a scorpion exo-700 and shark RSR2 they are both great. for the money they are both a lot of helmet. scorpion is a bit heavy but it carries a Snell cert. the shark is a bit primitive in its shield lock for the down position. watch the videos from sport bike and see if the features are what you like. the scorpion buffets a little and the vents are cheep (but its a cheep lid too, so get what you pay for) Shark is very light but the big vent on top pulls a little at speed, but no lift. it doesn't bother me but keep it in mind. now as far as a chrome shield after time they can start to flake or chip where flexed. keep a clear on you for night riding or throw sunglasses on under a clear for the day. I do dark smoke or Maui Jim shield style shades with a clear shield and do fine in the day, they slide right in just fine. sorry its a little late but hope it helps in the future.
