well he didn't ask for opinions or advice, and he got plenty of both. granted he was a prick about it, but the opinions were unsolicited... |

Andy's right. He didn't ask how to fix it rather he just told us how he fixed it. I'm not saying what he did was the right way or the wrong way to fix the problem because I don't know. What I do know is if someone else is having the same problem next week, next month, or next year and does a search and comes across that thread they will think that's the way to fix it unless other opinions are interjected. Even though the opinions were unsolicited I think stating a difference of opinion or even alternate solutions could benefit future search users. Just my $.02 |

I agree, Zach. Perhaps the community can also learn from this- by offering up other solutions, or "here's how I fixed it"...without telling him he's wrong and putting him on the defense. I completely agree with your thought that having the other solutions in the same thread makes sense. I just think we put him on the defense. |

I thought I was in a conversation that just went bad. I've fragged an engine through detonation and I don't want to see anybody go through that. It was miles from nowhere, no cell, long walk/push and lots of hassles getting the bike home. And then the rebuild... Also, I don't want to go through that again. So, I hope to learn from sharing information. Many of you say they have pinging, others don't. I'd like to know so I stay safe. When it became apparent that it was heading to an argument, I bailed. Experience is not the best teacher, it's expensive, painful and you don't usually get to use the lesson again. Somebody else's experience is the best teacher. That's why I spend so much time on these boards. |
