I discussed some of the shifting problems in another thread but want to get the full story here. Anyways after my service I have had two problems with the bike. It appears to be harder to start, today after a 5min break after riding (in very hot sun if that matters, 90+ degrees) it took 5+ seconds with some throttle twisting. Usually cold it takes under 1 second and warm starts right away. Engine has Royal Purple, wouldve thought it would start faster then stock oil. Also shifting is MUCH harder on the lever and I am needing to pull the clutch in further and still miss a lot of shifts. Syn3 in the tranny. What was stock? I want to bring it back to the dealer and see what they think... |

well, the tranny will NEVER be as good as your old bike, but it should still be pretty easy going into gears. I have ran Formula+ in my tranny ever since i got her and havent had any problems in that area. As for the rough starts in the HIGH temps, my bike does that to me too. After i turn it off the fan will usually go for about 6-10 minutes, i would wait until the fan turns off before starting. The fan is programmed to turn off once the rear cylinder hits around 350 degrees (correct me if im wrong). That usually fixes my rough start. Other than that, i wouldn't know, you guys with your NEWER buells have the self-setting TPS unlike my old '06 don't have to worry about those kinds of things. |

Sounds good, so hot bikes will be harder to start. I dont think the fan was on but it was HOT out. I will try another oil next time though, maybe amsoil. And I didnt mean the old bike. I meant the buell pre-service. It shifted excellent, now it shifts like $#$@. |

Is your clutch adjusted to spec? |

Clutch was adjusted at the service I would imagine. I really think its the oil as it is mostly in the foot lever, just takes a ton of effort. My dad was thinking maybe it was an improper amount of oil, some people seemed to think it was the Syn3 (whats stock?). And I will admit I put new bars on which required the clutch to be stretched a bit more but the shifting was bad from the get go, 100 miles from service to new bars and after the bars nothing changed. When I bring it in I will mention the bar so they can double check the clutch but the bar wasnt the cause as, like I said, it was happening prior to the bar swap. Its under warranty and its their work that caused it so I would imagine Ill have no trouble at all getting them to fix it... |

My bike seems to be a tad harder to start when it's hot. My cold starts are perfect. And I ride in some super hot weather. |

Formula+ is stock (at least that is what the service manual says for me) |

Sounds good, I will let them do as they please with it but if nothing changes I am going to be pretty sturn about them putting Formula+ back in, as its what most people recommend and I was convinced by there service tech that Syn3 is the way to go. If it was a subtle difference I'd pay and have it done but this thing is really shifting bad, and I think I got lucky with how well my bike shifted before hand (much better then people say Buells shift atleast) and Ill be royally bummed if they cant replicate that again! |

I tried Syn3 in the trans on a Sportster and didn't like the way it shifted, Just like you describe. Been using Formula+ ever since with better results. |

I've run Syn3 for 20K+ miles in my bike, both holes, with no ill effects. |

I think either an improper amount of oil or a poorly done adjustment is a more likely culprit than the oil itself, personally, but YMMV. |

I put the syn in the trans. at the last service and had immediately had shifting problems , missing 1-2 shifts and 2- 3 shifts . Put the formula+ back in and problems went away. Rick |

Same problem here with Amsoil, but after about 600 miles on it things seem to be getting better. I am just going to run it 'til it's time to change and check the magnet on the plug to see if it has more metal than usual. If it does, back to Formula+ I go!!! |

Did you check the oil levels? After a dealer service, I found I had to add almost 1/2 qt. to bring the trans. up to the proper level. |

"After a dealer service, I found I had to add almost 1/2 qt. to bring the trans. up to the proper level." This is one of the reasons I service my bike myself. When people ask me about getting a Buell the first thing I ask them is if they are comfortable doing their own service/repairs. If they say no I point them to a dealer that has Ducati/Triumph/KTM/MV Agusta and has good service. Where I'm at I wouldn't enjoy my Buell if I depended on the local HD dealerships. |
