Hi I just recently bought an xb12 muffler to replace the busted one on my xb9, I know this sounds stupid but it was a good price and available quick. I was wondering if anyone has done this before. I know the xb12 muffler has a valve that the xb9 does'nt, but do I need to weld it open and lock the valve closed? I've been informed that if I lock it open I will lose torque in the mid rpm range but don't know what the effects of locking it closed are. I just need some advice on what would be the best thing to do? Thanks everyone |

I wish - Im in the UK so it would be to much of a pain. Besides I need it fixed quick, I use the bike to commute to work everyday. |

Safety wire it open, ride for a day. Safety wire it closed, ride for a day. Choose which works best for you. That's what I'd do anyhow. |

or if you have the time later on. you can get the xb12 harness, ecm, actuator and cable and reprogram the ecm to acommidate the xb9. i wonder if there would be any benifit for the xb9 for torque. just a thought. (Message edited by deflaytedwayz2 on May 15, 2009) |

If you're gonna cut it open to remove the valve you might as well rebuild it while its apart. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFLak_ejQRo |
