Is it possible to remove the rear spark plug and the headers without unbolting the engine? Looking at it today I thought if a guy had some creative tools it might be possible. When I take the headers off next winter I want the engine to be hot that way my chances of breaking a stud are lessened. |

Hot header preventing broken studs? New to me. I just got done rotating my engine down to replace a snapped stud. It's not that hard. But u will want to get urself some stands, torque wrenches(inch and foot lbs) and a service manual. Search around on here like I did and you will find that the manual has you doing some things that aren't required. I did everything because I'm anal like that. My suggestion is do it the way it's intended even if people say it can be done by just removing rear shock/fan. |

Hot header preventing broken studs? New to me. Aluminum expands the hotter it gets so your essentially expanding the stud holes when you get it up to operating temperature. I assume the studs are steel and will not expand as much as the aluminum head. Same principal when you heat up a rim to aide in removing wheel bearings. I dont know if I'll snap my studs but id rather have all the advantages I can. } |

Its not possible to get the header out without rotating the engine. The rear o2 hits the frame. I tried everything I could think of. Rotating the engine was easier than all the stuff I tried. Go figure. BTW my header cam off like butter with 18K on the bike. |

That sucks. Iam hoping to get them off just so I can polish them up like my S1 pipes were. They are such an eyesore for such a beautiful bike. I should probably get them coated if Iam going to be taking them off. |

Do a search, I thought someone here polished them on the bike. |

Actually, I changed the header on my 08 XB9SX without rotating the engine too. I did have to pull the O2 sensor and move the fan. And it was a bit awkward, but doable. It was in the middle of lots of other work though, and I don't remember whatelse got disconnected. But I do remember that the engine didn't move. |
