So I sold a new in the box Race ECM to a fellow. I just received this response from him: ---- "just got around to installing ECM this weekend... install it. turn key on and check engine light comes on and stays on while running... ran a code reading on the ecm says EEPROM failure... ECM's bad... went back to install my old ECM and works and runs perfectly fine" ----- He mentions nothing about a TPS reset and to my knowledge, mainly info from this forum, and experience this is a must. Does anyone know if this would be the typical result and code that would flash. I am not familiar with the codes nor have I ever installed a Race ECM w/out a TPS reset. Since he did not mention a reset it sounded like this could be the problem to me. Only other thing I could think of is a defective ECM. Any and all knowledge would be much appreciated. Thank you all. |

Get it back, check with your own bike. |

TPS reset (or lack thereof) shouldn't cause an EEPROM error, just a funky idle and running condition. +1 on try it on your own bike to verify. |

Internal failures can also be caused by incorrect voltage. If the DTC can be cleared and does not reset, soon as power is connected. There is likely nothing wrong with the ECM. |

Is the year and model of his bike the same? |

I'm sure his bike is either an '03 or '04 XB9 based on the questions he asked me in refrance to the model number of the ECM. which was 32801-02Y. |

what Gunter said ID#######, get the unit in your hands to check. If needed i can get you the ecm file to that ecm then reflash it. then reset the tps to your bike and test. |
