Has anybody run ECMspy on Boot Camp? I guess the real question is do I need to install windows to run ECMspy? | ||

i am curious to this as well. I have a macbook and it would be a lot more convenient to run ECM spy on my own computer | ||

I use ECMspy on my MacBook Pro using bootcamp and XP SP2 without any issues. Yes you need windows installed somehow; with bootcamp or one of the other ones. | ||

I use it in Parallels, works great. BootCamp should work just as well...but yes you need a Windows copy either way, I believe. If I'm mistaken and someone knows of another way, I am willing to try it out to test. | ||

Good news, I have a Macbook pro with parallels with XP. Have you guys data logged with it yet? Im curious as to how this would work because every time I shut the lid the computer goes to sleep. | ||

I have not datalogged with it, but I use a program called insomniax to prevent the shutting down when closing the lid. free program, google it. | ||

I've data-logged. No need for any 3rd party software; just change the energy settings to 'do nothing' under lid close (right click on battery in system tray or through control panel). This is all on the XP side of things. (Message edited by nik on May 11, 2009) | ||

Gotcha. I don't have that option with my install of Media Center (which is basically XP Pro) in Parallels. That's odd, but I think that Parallels disables it. | ||

Yeah my little bro uses VM as well and likes it. I have no issues with Parallels tho, so I don;t see the need to switch over... If I understand how BootCamp works, you basically have to boot into windows instead of OSX right? | ||

Ok, I like the functionality of Parallels. I have no use to boot exclusively into Windows. I use my Mac all day, every day. It sits on a laptop stand at work, next to a 19" monitor. When I need to use Windows, I run it full screen on the Mac, OSX running on the 19"... I love that setup! In this case, InsomniaX would be the solution anyway. On another note, ever wanted to use you Mac for playing music with the lid closed? InsomniaX has many good uses.  http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/22211 | ||

oh wait maybe I read that wrong. In boot camp you have to start up on either windows or OSX. Parallels is great, VM Fusion is great too. You can switch back and forth really quick. Thanks for that link! That is a good idea. | ||

Set up your Windows box to use Remote Desktop, then use a Remote Desktop client on your iPhone/iPod to control it. Works like a charm, and I would assume that as long as you have a data connection with the iPhone you should be able to log with it. I do this with my Nokia 770 tablet to do some audio tuning work at one of my brother's restaurants- the system requires that I have a Windows machine plugged in my serial cable, so I set that up, then walk around the space wirelessly with my Nokia adjusting EQs, levels and x-over points. It's my inner geek at it's finest! |
