Hey guys I've got two bikes right now, a Cyclone and a Night Rod Special. Now, I'm considering staying in school a little while longer than normal and am considering selling the VRod, but the Cyclone's shock is blown. I've been riding for about nine years and the VRod was my first cruiser and I love the bike, but it dawns on me that the cruiser is not my favorite flavor of motorcycling nor are crotch rockets. For some reason I like standards/lighter upright bikes with ground clearance. Now I could sell the rod and have money for another bike, a Cyclone shock, and have a load of cash on reserve for when things come up. My question is this: Would you consider the CityX the spiritual successor to the Cyclone? Basically, are the comfort, handling, and acceleration comparable in regards to the CityX and Cyclone? |

Reepicheap seems to think so. |

I'd say the Lightning Long was the spiritual successor. In fact, the reason Buell built the bike in the first place is because a LOT of tuber owners just thought the first generation XB bikes were too damned TINY. The ergos on the Long model is remarkably similar to the M2 Cyclone, but the pegs are up a bit higher. That didn't take long for me to adjust to, though. But the increased fuel capacity gave it similar range (less fuel, but better mileage equaled out), the longer, broader seat was far more comfortable than the padded suppositories on the regular Lightning models, and the steering was less "twitchy" too. |

I own a 2000 X1, and love it like no other bike I've ever owned. I made the mistake of sitting on a black 09 lightning long at the dealership the other day. Perfect! |

I also have a M2, +1 on the Lightning long, although after the Firebolt, the Super TT is my favorite. I was looking to replace the Cyclone with the Super TT. Looks like that ain't happening now. |

Al, From what I gather, the 2009 XB12Ss IS the SuperTT with the Ss bodywork. Although it always carried the same frame, it now has the taller suspension from the SuperTT. |

The lightning long is probably a closer fit now at least physically. The way the 9sx is a better successor is because like the M2, it was "almost as much bike for the rest of us" but for a lot less money and for a lot lower cost of ownership. Thats how the 9sx feels. Its a heck of a bike for $7200 or whatever they go for these days... And a good rider on a 9 is probably hard to pick out from a good rider on a 12... I was chasing 12's at Mid Ohio down the back straight, and they were walking away really slowly... literally they were distancing themselves from me (both of us WOT) at a very slow walk. Enough to win a race, but not something you would feel on the street. The 9sx is just a "go everywhere do everything cheap and accessibly" bike. The lightning long is more comfortable and a shade more powerful, but more expensive. Both great bikes, you won't go wrong. And I still haven't figured out the seat thing, but the 9sx in 05 (mine) is very tall... so it is roomier then you would think. |

Oh, and specifically... my 9sx does ***everything*** better then my M2 did. Better handling, better stopping, better acceleration. Maybe not *quite* as good 2 up, but still arguably just as good. And reliability and cost of ownership of the 9sx is so much better its scary (and the M2 wasn't bad to begin with). |

Thanks for the impute guys. I'm pretty sure at this point I'm going to go ahead and wax up the V-Rod, snap some, pics and decide on an acceptable price. I've considered BMW, Ducati, and pretty much everything else for a replacement, but my experience with the M2(except the damn rear shock) has understandably leaned me toward Buell. I'm now heavily debating between the 9sx and the Ulysses and now, thanks to your input, the 12Ss. I'll have to make it down to a dealership and at least sit on all three after I see the Harley. No worries though, I'm still keeping the M2. I might also add that this decision is heavily influenced by a need for utility. I just can't see ruining the lines of the V-Rod with bags, but it doesn't bother me in the least with the XB bikes. |

I am going to have to go the the SS as the new M2 I used to own a 02 M2, my wife always refers to our ULY as a more comfy M2. |

I used to be a huge BMW fan/rider. even though my klr was far better at almost everything and looked a lot better after being dropped ... oh probably thousands of times. Lots of buell guys I've talked to are old bmw riders. I do have people telling me that my SX is too small for a guy my size. But I've made large cruisers look small.. just got to live with it or get back on a GS adventure. |
