Today was suppose to be my quit smoking day. So I wake up and make it through the early morning ok. I ride to work and while parking I dump the bike. I'm not really sure what happened. Maybe I used the front brake while leaned over. There was a pine cone near the rear tire, but I had seen it and thought I was clear but maybe I ran it over. Anyways, I smashed a finger between the handle bar and brake lever when it hit the ground. I broke the turn signal and right foot peg. I decide to go home so I can ice the finger and relax. On the way home I stop at a mini mart for cigarettes. Getting back on the bike, I knock it off the kickstand and brake the left foot peg. Now I have to ride the rest of the way home, about two miles, with no foot pegs. I think my lesson is to not ride for the first couple of days that I quit smoking since my concentration is messed up. Besides I can't ride now until I get new foot pegs. Good news is I have my first two drops out of the way. |

Dang, sorry to hear it man! Good luck with your quitting smoking. My only aunt died a few months ago from lung cancer at the young age of 53. She was a pack-a-day smoker for 35 years. Stick with it! Macdiver- I sent you a PM, let me know if you got it or not! (Message edited by andymnelson on April 28, 2009) |

Good news: with the money you'll be saving from not smoking you'll be able to replace those parts and add many more without breaking the bank! My stepfather bought a new bike with the money he saved in his first year or two. |

Today was suppose to be my quit smoking day. I say that everyday and everyday I stop for a pack. I smoke Black and Milds to where there is only 5 in a pack. But one cigar is like two or three cigs. Nasty habit but oh well. Sucks you dropped the bike. Should be a pretty cheap fix. I dropped mine last weekend in the grass. Snapped the only bar end mirror I had left and the right side riding peg. I now also have my first two out of the way. |

I got my first 2 out of the way within a month after getting mine. First time was in the grass--broke the left turn signal. Second time it fell over in the driveway while I was closing the garage door--not a scratch, lucky on that one. |

The only good thing is that the xb pegs are cheaper by the pair. |

Good news is the XB drops pretty well compared to most bikes. Havent dropped mine (knocks on wood) but did have my first bike fall over while taking a picture of some scenery. Not a fun experience, now if it happened twice in a row! |

Sorry about dropping your bike. I hope your finger is o.k. Now H.T.F.U. and quit smoking! I quit 18 years ago. It was hard, but worth it. Cold turkey is the only way to do it. |

Parking lot turning (1-5mph) & U Turns = rear brake. Getting your hand off the front brake is a hard habbit to break. I watched the "ride like a pro" guys at Leesberg Bikefest and besides looking over your shoulder they use only the rear brake and slip the clutch to turn a harley ultra in a 16ft u turn. |

First of all, thanks for the support everyone. It has now been over three days since my last smoke and it is getting better. I just need to remember that I will always be one puff away from a pack a day. I'll be putting new pegs and a new lens on the bike today, so I might be back riding soon. I think my finger is broken. As the swelling is finally going away, I can tell that there is a problem with the first knuckle. Depending on the next day or two, I'll probably will go see a doctor on Monday. Of course I'll have to deal with the "you should have come in sooner" speech. |

After the doc gives you the "should have come in sooner speech" he will give you the "we will have to re-break it" speech. When he ask if you want a shot of pain killer , the answer is YES. It is going to hurt more the second time Rick |

Whew, I'm glad I didn't get Rick's "we will have re-break it speech." The Doctors words were, "Well, you basically smashed the end of your finger off". It was a nice clean break below the finger nail. The knuckle was not affected. Since bones heal, it's just a matter of time. Good news is, still not smoking and I should be able to ride if it ever stops raining and warms up. |
