Ok, in about 2k miles the old girl is gonna need her 20k service. I'm gonna do it ALL except the fork oil and TPS. That will be done at the dealership. Main question i have is this: About how much will all the new stuff cost to buy at the dealership to do it myself (i.e. Belt, primary inspection gasket, primary gasket, spark plugs) |

From what others have said, having the dealer do the fork oil is the most expensive part. |

i know, but that's the part that i dont want to do the most. I don't want to take the chance of doing it wrong, and dont have the equipment to do it, so thats what i'm gonna have them do. |

Are you going to take the legs to them or the whole bike? |

whole bike, don't want to mess with ANY of that stuff up front. I'm pretty sure i can handle everything else with no problem. If i had the tools i would give the fork oil a shot, but i dont. |

The fork oil change makes up like 80% of the service cost. It typically is something like $600 for the service, $500 of it being the forks alone. |

Whats the 1000 mile service cost then? I thought for some reason it was $350 approx, I assume this service is the same stuff plus forks so how could that be $600 total and $500 for the forks. If your confident enough to do all the other work to the bike I would definetly recommend taking the forks off and having the dealer do it (if its significantly cheaper) or having an independent suspension shop do it. Fork removal on these type of bikes should be (havent looked into it) extremely easy to do... If you are confident enough to do the other work I dont see why you couldnt remove fork legs. |

Forks only have to be done every 10k. |

I just did this a few weeks back. Syn 3 Oil, oil filter, a gasket, two plugs, and a new air filter. were $99 and change, including the tax. (Message edited by kurbennett on April 24, 2009) |

Call your dealer and ask for a estimate on the service. It varies by dealer, but $300 sounds right. |

Man, the shop manual and parts book are a lot cheaper than $300. Save some $$ and do it yourself. Now, I haven't gotten the goodies to do the TPS reset and intend to take the legs in for the fork service, but the rest just takes some hand tools and following the manual. Jump right in, you'll do fine. Besides, all the experts here got that way by making mistakes when they started and having to redo. |
