To the Firebolt owners...where are you guys mounting the ballast for your HID's? Is there any spot that will completely hide it? |

Yuppers! Inside the fairing just above the lights w/ velcro. You'll need a slim ballast. Do not buy the cheapest one you can find. Do not power the ballast straight off the bike's harness. Get a relayed auxillary harness to power the ballast.

I did a dual HID setup and could not fit both ballast/igniters neatly in the bugface...so I extended the ballast power wires to the igniters so that I could locate the ballasts in the tail section. If you had anything like this in mind-do NOT cut the silicon wires. My setup is uses slim ballasts with separate igniters; I cut the power wires to the igniter and spliced in a nice fat IEC cable (3-prong power cable). Everything is fine |

Midknyte...thats exactly what I'm looking for. I bought a HID from a board member...it is indeed a slim ballast. Is this aux relay harness something I can purchase? And where would I get it, if so? |

When I do mine later this season, doing HID low and getting a Hoen bulb for the high. Hoens are recommended "colormatch" for HIDs, can still flash people for speedtraps. |

I had a hard time finding a single line aux harness's for bikes. I just bought an HID aux harness for a car off of ebay. It was wired for dual ballasts - I just cut off the extra line and insulated, and re-wrapped. Here's my old KB thread that start out with adding a line to the stock subharness for running lights and leads into my HID aux harness. Lot's o pics for you. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/391936.html?1220687707 |

Wow, impressive job. The new lighting harness...is that a Buell piece or just generic? (Message edited by marko138 on April 23, 2009) |

Standard. I had to replace it because I melted the connector running my HID ballast straight off it. |

Ok, so I should be ok with mine as long as I dont melt it first. I'll look in to an aux HID harness. |

I got my HID kit here. http://www.kbcarstuff.com/Motorcycle_Xenon_HID_Con version_Kits_s/34.htm This kit has 6ft of wire in between the bulb and ballast. This allowed me to put the ballast in between my battery and trunk, plenty of room there. I ran the wires along side the wire harness to the front of the bike on the inside, left side, of the frame. That way it looks factory installed. This kit also comes with a fused link and relay so it's not drawing power from the factory wiring, just uses the factory wire to switch the relay. At least that's how I wired mine. It's a bit pricey as HID kits prices have come down a lot lately, but I have never had a problem with it and I didn't have to hack any thing up on my bike to fit it in. I hope some of this helps. |

one recommendation that should be made is put in a delay timer, it will keep your headlights from "blinking" every time you turn on the bike. The timer can be set to allow you time to get the key turned, hit the ignition, and let the rpm's settle, then the light kick on, and stay on until you shut the bike off. great improvement, saves the bulbs and ballasts, down the road. |
