The Lightening you mean. He may have a sh!t load of Firebolts and just wants to get rid of them. I believe Lightenings are more common?

If your dealer still has thunderbolt and they are new he probably is the only one and it kept them hidden all that time lol

Didn't Erik Buell say that he preferred the Lightning for going fast over unfamiliar roads, but would take the Firebolt on a well known road? Or have I been drinking to much cough medecine and making this s#!t up?

That's total rider preference. Kind of a stupid thing to push on someone, unless they need to move a particular bike.

A demo of them back to back will tell you all you need to know. Go with comfort for your riding style over image, welcome to the crew.

I wouldn't say they were "pushing" them unless they were giving them away cheaper.

Same year, same accessories, should be pretty much same price. No reason to push one over the other.

Don't buy either. I heard Buell is going out of bussiness. How will you get parts or service ?

Maybe they want to sell the XB12S__ models because their MSRP is $10,495 while the XB12R's MSRP is $9,995.

Both bikes are similar...

With the 2009's suspension and geometry is different. Scg has short travel, harder, not the best overall. Ss has tons of travel and longer wheelbase but mine still flicks really nicely, the R is in the middle with the Scg's wheelbase and a more middle ground travel/plushness.

I would take the lightning personally unless you are only using the bike for short weekend fun. Clip ons on the R are not super low in sport bike terms but the lightning is MUCH more comfortable. The R is a good looking bike though and you can always get some taller bars and maintain the sporty look.

One thing I'd consider is: Where will you be doing most of your riding? I really love riding a Lightning around town; it's like an oversized mini bike and I cant wipe the ridiculous grin off of my face when I'm on one, but on the highway, I find the Firebolt to be infinitely more comfortable. After some minor ergonomic tweaks on mine, (Lightning pegs and Heli-Bars), I've done thousand mile days on five different occasions, with no sweat, and I'm 48 years old with bad knees.

By the way, if you carry a passenger that you care about, forget either of them, and get a Ulysses.........

+1 strato9r... the firebolt has potential to be more comfortable at higher speeds but lets also remember, the buell is not a touring bike (although it tours just fine) so dont buy just because its a bit more comfortable at speed. My lightning is fine at regular cruising speeds and even at higher speeds its not bad at all... not like my last faired bike but the upright position makes up for it.

But yes with lightning pegs and heli-bars I would imagine its a sweet riding position, stock, it may not be a moto GP setup but it is a very sporty position.

With the 2009's suspension and geometry is different.

I have to correct you here Jraice the only diff in 09 is no more regular S only the Scg which is only lower and the Ss went with the Stt suspension the geometry stayed the same, yes the Ss,X,XT have a different geometry but they always had.

JS that is correct, my point was you can no longer get an S or an R without getting different suspension.

In the past they had the XB12S and the XB12R so you could get the same suspension and geometry but just decide on fairing and bar positioning.

Now there are other factors as you can no longer get the XB12S.

Make more sense?

Sorry for the confusion.
