Ok I didn't realize this was a problem for the 2003 XB's until I started searching BadWeB. The Oil Cooler feed and return lines on my XB9S have rubbed against each other, worn thru, and are now leaking. Apparently, this issue was addressed on newer models by the use of a separator clamp. Was this a recall issue? Will Buell cover this repair? (I'm guessing No, but it never hurts to ask) My nearest Buell dealer wasn't too helpful. I called about the parts and was told that the lines are $130 each! A search here on BadWeB brought up a couple of posts that state there was a kit that included the lines and separator for under $70. Does anyone know what the part number for this kit is? The parts guy at my local dealer had no clue. |

Are you talking about those two lines by the chin fairing? Dr. Greg removed the separator clamp from his and then had the lines rub and leak. He ended up getting new lines from a hydraulic shop for less than the Buell part. |

I got a spare set on Ebay and never needed them - sold them to a buddy but yes, you WILL need to separate them AND torque them properly when you re-connect. You don't want them to rub - they should be separated by a bit - and then the plastic clamp gizmo will keep them apart. You can always do a figure 8 type ZipTye separator. Drew a very crude sketch of what works (ran 2 seasons on the racebike) - use heavy plastic zipties. Use a couple where needed - works as good as the official clamp but doesn't have to be precision.

I actually saw those lines on ebay when i was on my lunch break. I waited cause I would have been willing to pay $60 for a brand new set from the dealer. But after a call to Buell Customer service to get the part number and a call to Pensacola HD, I was still quoted $130 and I didn't get a warm fuzzy feeling about it. So I just bought those from eBay. Hope they're good, they just look like they need a little cleaning. Thanks everybody. Notice to all those 03 riders out there; Check your Oil Cooler Lines! |

Yep a local hyd shop can help you. Bring in the old lines and they can make them up for you. Even try your local NAPA, often they can make lines too. |

You can also use a section of cut rubber hose between the two lines, held together with zip ties. One of the new lines is different too. It fits better than the 2003 line. |

When I talked to the parts guy and gave him the part number that Buell Customer Service gave me, it sounded like it was just one line in the kit. I'm thinking its probably the newer, better fitting line and the clamp. which would only do me good if I had caught the problem before they started wearing through rubber. I got that used set coming soon so no more worries. |
