I just changed my oil, was gonna run either Amsoil or Mobil 1. I went with Mobil 1, might try Amsoil later on. |

I run Amsoil in all my bikes and will never change. If you tear the bike down it will look brand new inside. Good stuff. |

I have heard excellent stuff about buells and Royal Purple, but dont hear a lot about it on here. Thats what I plan to use in the engine and for now (until I do more research) the Harley recommended stuff in the primary. Also redline is great for harleys and twins, but dont hear a lot about that either. I have heard some say the RP ran quiter and cooler then M1. Just wondering why less people use RP on here then say BuelletinBoard. |

I think it's just the people on this forum are a different demographic. I run RP, but I come from a sport bike background. This is a...uh...more mature crowd here- lots more cruiser folk than sport bike folk, I would guess. Love the RP, bike runs fantabulous on it. |

Sweet that makes sense. What are you running in the tranny? What filter? I was planning to stay with forumla+ in the tranny (is that same or different from off the showroom?) and stock filter. I am changing at 2500 mile intervals so might as well stick with the ease of filters from the dealer. |

Not cruiser background, mx here, and people who read. Amsoil has done all the studies. Their research blows RP out of the water. Of course, it is their research. We read SAE papers, dino changed frequently is best. |

I run RP 20 50 in both holes, use a Buell filter so far (I got like 6 of then with my bike, just used the last one). Say what you want, but a full syn takes longer to break down, especially under high heat as in our engines. It has always worked wonders for me. |

RP also has crap for detergents, fine for racing bad for everyday stuff... |

Any oil, dino or synth is going to work just fine, some will be quieter, cooler, less wear etc... Perhaps RP doesnt have the detergents of the others but with a safe change interval of 2,500 I cant imagine it being any different then dino changed at 1,500. |

I run Amsoil. The engine is much quieter than the Syn 3 that was in it before. |

I've got my last two bikes and rapidly coming up third bike (an 03, R1)....100,000+ miles...using Mobil 1, 15-50. I put it into my 1125 at 575 miles and I put it into the XB12 I just bought...both the engine and the gear oil into the trans. I've done some of my own homegrown tests and been very happy with the Mobil 1 results. As someone else here sorta said...I see no reason to change brands. Didn't notice much difference between the Syn3 and Mobil one, Am now running the Amsoil and am very happy with it in the engine and transmission. I've found that my clutch works much smoother and more consistent with the Amsoil. With the other oils, I noticed that when I went on poker rides with the "Harley" boys, who have to hot rod from every stop sign and intersection, and if you don't too, you'll get run over. That after a hand full of quick stop and go's the clutch would start to get grabby and inconsistent from a stop. Even when trying to go easy on it. After switching to Amsoil it has been smooth and consistent ever since. 28K miles, '08 Uly. The Royal purple oils have a higher upper temp threshold before you get into thermal breakdown, but I'm not burning the Amsoil and the drain plug magnets are squeaky clean at oil changes. |

I am one of the old cruiser guys. I used to run Mobil 1. I switched to Syn 3 for no good reason. I can't really tell a difference between the two of them from a riding stand point. My bike doesn't burn oil either way. Runs great. Over 40,000 miles with no internal engine issues. I don't know, it seems that there is more than one good choice you can make. |

I run HD Syn 3...fan seems to run less than dino. Maybe running cooler, who knows? When the warranty in up I might change. |

I've switched back and forth for 2 changes now... it burns about a quart of amsoil per oil change. Doesn't burn any when I run Delvac 1300 Super (same stuff I use in my truck). To clarify, that's 2 changes with each oil. (Message edited by saratoga on April 14, 2009) |

As long as you use the proper vis of API "C" oils then you'll be fine. However, I can highly recommend EVO grade Olea oil. Great stuff! |
