After spending the $ for a select seat and being disappointed by the fit, I didn't want to spend another $200 (or whatever the exchange rate made it) for spacers. So I made my own. I don't mind the gap. It kinda has an industrial look. Before:

Not to be a wiseguy, but what is the point of this modification? From what I can tell by the photos, you have moved an unsightly gap from seat/frame to the support rail/frame. Is the seat more comfortable now or was it an attempt to improve the look? |

Only wiseguys have to qualify..... I know, I am one. I'll give that I have moved the gap. I feel it is less unsightly where it is. Its a shorter line and less angular. The front of the seat wouldn't even lock in before. I like the overall look better. Comfort is the same. It's a better position when on one wheel. Looks like a cat in heat. |

Couldnt you easily shape a pice of sheet metal to fit the gap? That seems like what the other kits use. Maybe even using some thin flat stock. I dont know if you have access to that, but you can usually find small pieces at any hardware store. |

Not a big fan of the gap you made, but DANG, that seat didn't fit worth a flip before! I think i would have taken it back as defective! There's no way that could have been right. ~SM |

Sorry about that I misread the post. I thought you were looking for a solution. Personally I like the look of the lift, but that space would drive me nuts! But I see what your saying, and as long as your happy, nice work! |

Your first pic looks like the front of the seat wasn't hooked in properly, are you sure the tab was in the right place. I've got the Select seat also and it's nowhere near that out of wack. As for the lift...looks pretty nice even with the space. |

I couldn't hook the front in b4. The sides of the seat about halfway up the rails would contact first. It would kinda rock, but the tail has to lock, so it would end up like the b4 picture. It is the same pan by part # as the low which was on there. Bad QC at the plastic plant. As for the gap, on this sight, there are many with quite an eye for detail; especially when looking at a Buell. My non-Buell fanatic friends say things like "what gap r u talking about" "that little space?" |

The seating position felt better to me especially with lower bars like crossroads or clubmans.

Gjm, Sweet looking bike bro! What size S10 do you have? Med or Lg, or their sizing of 1-4? (Message edited by boney95 on April 13, 2009) |

I have the darkhorsemoto spacers and I am in the process of making a second set for myself, which will provide a less drastic angle for the seat, and be a bit more comfortable for me... will post pics when am done. I will have a set of spacers available if anyone is interested... $100 shipped. Here is how it looks "as is" on an '09 Scg: (Message edited by wavex on April 14, 2009) |

To each his own of course, I wouldn't do that to my bike. They used to get that look on cars in the 60's and 70's with shackles on the leaf springs. I thought it looked bizarre then. |

Wavex, I went 3/4" center to center on the holes to get that lift. |

"I installed my brand new outta' the box Select seat last night and it is the exact same way with the large gap towards the air box cover...looks bad" Get a refund. Click on my profile link and look at mine- that's how they should fit, and how mine fit right out of the box. It sounds like they have had some QC issues. Maybe Court can chime in on the correct way to handle this? Compare the seat pan to your stock seat- I bet you see some obvious differences, when they should look the same. |

My sport seat has about a 3/8" gap. It took me about 3 weeks to get the seat after I ordered it, so I said F it. I'll live with it, its not too bad. Question though. If I get spacers what can I predict the seat to look like/fit, with the 3/8" gap already? The middle of the seat snuge against the cover, and the front bottom edges of the seat pulled back even further than the current 3/8"? |

Boney, Adrenaline, before I made the spacers, I loosened the front (pivot point) bolts and removed the rear bolts. You can lift the tail and put in something small (block of wood, socket) and set the tail on it. Try different sized items until you have the fit/lift you want then measure the spacing you put between the holes (frame and sub frame). Then fabricate a pair of tabs. I used 1/8" aluminum with the spacing you got in the above step. The tricky part is shaping/rounding the bottom of the tab and locating the bottom hole in relation to the bottom edge. I did it by hand/eye. |

I made my own a couple months ago. I used 1/8 stock as well but used D2. It looks better but with the cityX seat my short little legs cant quite reach that well. I put mine up for sale in the classifieds section and two pricks showed up basically saying my time and labor were worthless and I should just give them away.

Not sure right off the bat but I made a blueprint for later reference. The nice thing about the design of seat frame is that even if the spacers fail the seat wont fly off. Iam about 230 pounds though and my spacers are still nice and flat. |
