I have been watching this board for some time now and I think its pretty great. I bought my '03 XB9S last year and have found your discussions around modifications particularly enlightening. I am attempting to order the XB12 air filter cover, but up here in Canada - at least in Edmonton!,- it is difficult to get "new" parts unless they have already been ordered (?)...your typical Catch 22!
I attempt to do as much wrench-work as possible myself (at $75.00 per hr. shop labour, who doesn't!?), but some things you just have to get the dealer to do (e.g. reset TPS). I would like to change the fork oil myself, but after pricing out the clamp and fork compression tools required at over $600.00 Cdn., I may have to rethink this - maybe I'll just take the forks in for the shop to do, should save a bunch of labour charges.
The only malady my Buell has suffered so far was the voltage regulator failure while on summer holidays last year near Field, B.C. (odometer reading about 10,000 kms/6000 miles). I had some initial warning what with engine light flashing, instrument needles sweeping back and forth, but as I was in the middle of nowhere (at least service-wise), I just kept on trucking until a total failure occured. Fortunately, I had the good sense to get the Road-side Assistance package, as the total bill for towing from Field, B.C. to Calgary, AB was around $1000.00 (yikes!!). I hauled it the rest of the way to Edmonton in my truck/trailer which my son met me with. I think I learned a little too late on this site the warnings about pressure washing a Buell !? I suspect the failure was my own doing (?).
I must say, I really love riding this bike...I have a constant grin on my face every time I turn it over! All the guys I ride with get to watch my
rear tire now!
I have the Buell race kit installed (pipe/air filter/ecm) and I love the sound and am getting used to revving a little higher for max. torque. I didn't like the looks or complexity of removing the belt guards and thought I would replace them with the '04 spec guards...forget it...the bottom guard almost touches the belt! Guess I'll just hang on to the new guards until I scrape up enough money for the complete belt conversion (or not). You cannot return parts once you open that pristine Buell plastic bag!
Anyways, I'll quit rambling for now. Good to be part of this.

hey flick welcome aboard... hope you enjoy the view here. i guess you are snowed in too? we are having a very warm spring like day : 34 degrees in homer alaska. roads are a little wet, i would go for a ride, but the parking lots are still icy. still a couple feet of snow. should be cooled back down by weekend, in time for our 4th weekend of ice racing. i am planning to lead a gang to whitehorse around 04 july this year. maybe meet up with you if you are out west at that time. i will check back in a few months with details. we are all real interested in a method of TPS reset around here too.if you find a device capable of performing this function please let us all know. thanks... dean
