Are there any prepainted RH Air Scoops available that match the LH one in stock colors. I want to add a RH Air Scoop that matches the LH one on on my '08 XB12SS.

If not, where do you get the paint and what type do you use? Does it make a difference if it is a fiberglass or carbon scoop when prepping and painting?

Summer is coming and I want to get one put on before the weather gets too hot.

I hate to paint, it is always to cold, or to humid, or to dusty, or to windy, or a bug will fly into it, and the job does not come out right. I know, my bad!

I want paint that looks good and will last like on the "stock" air scoop. And yes, I know that for a fee I could take it to a body shop, but I prefer not to.

I think I'm back as a sponsor now (I see the banner come up in rotation.) Here is a picture and a link to the details.

If you want a scoop to match the LH, this is a good one. Fully finished, tough layered construction, black all the way through. Still painted to get the matt finish. You can use stove black to touch up (or to paint an unfinished scoop - since you asked).

I also have the version for Micron headers. If you want to compare prices, the AU$ is running at around 70c US.

I can vouch for this product. I bought 2 of them from Roberto. They are expensive due to the exchange rate but they look great and the quality is there. I put them on my 04 XB12S and my wife's 06 XB12SS. Roberto was great to deal with and the parts arrived within 2 weeks. He does a great job packing them so no worries about damage during shipping. I bet you could have dropped a bowling ball on the box and the scoops would have been fine. The XB12SS used to run very hot and the fan was on most of the time (even in the winter months), now it rarely comes on. This is a high quality product from a high quality person. You can email him at r.crins@gmx.net

I'm with you Calboy. I wish Buell would just offer a right side in plastic for 100 bucks just as an accessory to nullify some of these absurd prices on those scoops. I understand it takes money to develop the molds and whatnot, but I don't want to be spending a crapload of money on a hunk of fiberglass that was left off from the factory for some reason.

Hi Calboy.

It's $400 Australian which is about US $280 at the moment.

From '08 there are new Euro headers for bikes with catalytic converters. The headers are higher and I think they come into the muffler from the front. These are used in Europe, UK and South Africa. Perhaps some others. Pegasus Customizing make a scoop for these that rises on the front pipe at the intake of the scoop. They use the same concept for the scoop they make for Micron headers.

North American and Australian headers are unchanged from previous years. Same headers, although the ones I have ordered recently have been silver coloured instead of bronze.

It would look good in carbon. I'll mention it to Roberto.

Edit: Though his concept has been to make a match for the LH scoop, so he may not go for that.

the factory uses a small right side scoop for good reason. Look it up in FUELL magazine. Caution is warranted when you're trying to 'out- think' the engineers that designed and built the machine. So what about the side stand bolt hehehe

The purpose of the small RH scoop as I understand it is to direct (warm?) air to the fuel rail.

The aftermarket scoops still have this with the space between the scoop and the engine.

From what I've heard the reason an XB doesn't have a full RH scoop is mainly due to meeting emissions requirements in some places. The '08+ models have the fans set to come on at a higher temperature, and this is possibly related.

Thanks Petebueller for the input. I would not spend $400 on an airscoop, but $280 gets my interest.

Thanks Pete, thanks Syd

All airscoops are handmanufactured, painted exactly to fit the stock one and made of tough 2K resin for high temperatures. It's 100% symmetrical and it's ready to install out of the box.

A lot of fellow Badwebbers have ordered these. The initiative has come from the Dutch Buellforum. They gave me the backup to start up all manufacturing and the first 40pcs were sold.

Now they are available for all XB models, from 02 till now, EU headers and even the Micron airscoop I have in production since last February. Also carbon fibre is available.

Feel free to contact me or Peter if you have any questions. I'm the manufacturer, Pete is one of my resellers in Australia.

Rob
