I have a 2007 XB9R and the kickstand is showing a lot of lean and now has swung out so far that when in the "up" position, it lies directly in between my foot peg and shifter making it extremely hard to shift. How can I tighten it up and keep it from slipping back and does anyone have any advice for aftermarket kickstands or any other solution? |

Check the hardware that mounts the side stand (kickstand) to the engine. The bolts are supposed to be torqued to 25 to 27 ft-lbs. When they come loose the bike will lean way over. |

I went through the whole learning curve on my '06X and it may be the same deal on your R. Here is the short version. I found that the surface that the kickstand bolts on to was not flat. Neither was the surface on the kickstand. I machined them both using a sharp flat file and replaced the 2 mounting bolts with 5/16 18tpi 1-1/4" grade 8 bolts with washer heads. They are a hex head bolt with a larger surface like a built in washer. I used a lot of blue locktight on the bolts. If your kickstand problem is that it is loose where it bolts on to the engine, that will fix it. |
