Hey guys. Today I bought the 2006 XB9SX with 9k on it. I was super happy and rode it when I got home, of course. But now, after sitting in my garage for 2 hours, there is a silver dollar-sized oil spill from the swing arm. It's visibly leaking from the seam of the swingarm. Needless to say, I wasn't made aware of the leak when I bought it. Has anyone else had this problem? Now I'm super pissed and super frustrated; it is going to have to get welded apparently. I was just curious to see if anyone else had this problem, thanks.

That's a great offer Shawn, but unfortunately I am headed back to school tomorrow and wouldn't be able to get up there. And, I am postive it is leaking from the seam; you can see the hairline fracture in the pictures. Again, I definitely appreciate the offer though!

Dentguy, I appreciate your sleuthing skills. Unfortunately what worked for those guys (getting a new swingarm) isn't really feasible at the moment... I spent all my money on the bike.

i hate to see you just buy the thing and be down already, let me know what your schedule looks like. i have access to a very skilled welder at my shop and i could probably have it taken care of for free(can't promise).

shoot me a pm

I would bring it up to the previous owner. There is no way they didn't know about the crack and leaking oil. That is pretty bad to know that someone would sell something with a condition like that and not make the buyer aware.

Yeah, my dad was livid, trust me. He called the guy back and the dude said he thought "it was natural." No way this guy couldn't have noticed the huge puddle of oil after only 2 hours. Ridiculous.

I know it's usually buyer beware but you may want to check your state laws about disclosing such obvious problems when selling a used vehicle. It may not hurt to contact the previous owner regardless of the law. Just the threat of a small claims case (diplomatically stated of course) may prompt some offer of rectifying the situation.

Someone has some serious karma issues coming up to deal with.

I have no doubt that once you get this resolved you will come to love your new ride. It just sucks that people will pull that kind of stuff though.

Thanks Sifo, I appreciate your input; serious and amusing at the same time. When my father called back the previous owner was going to check to see if the swingarm is covered under the warranty. It's an '06; does anyone know if it is off the top of their heads?

It's 2 years from the original purchase date, unlimited mileage. I'm not positive, but I think the warranty is transferable. Any dealer should be able to run the VIN and let you know where you stand on the warranty.

FYI the warranty is transferable, but it must be transferred with in 30 days of sale. the form requires buyer/seller signatures. i turned mine into the stealership, and they mailed it off for me.

that sucks to hear dude, I have stopped doing stoppies since like october because I was afraid of that happening to my swingarm.
If you see any construction crews working on a building, theres sure to be welders working there. Talk to the welders personally instead of their boss because it will get the job done for you cheaper by cutting down the chain of command. And they'll be happy to do so

call me young and immature.... give the previous owner a good ol thank you prank ; )like eggging toilet papering and such

I have never tried it, but it sounds funny and a really good prank.... saw down a nice big tree on his property in the dead of the night, lol

It's aluminum. If a welder can weld aluminum with the quality you want, he most likely won't be on a construction site.

Still, what you are looking for would be a van saying TIG welding. Or welding where you see a very bright, very white light.

You'd still have to take the swingarm off. And if you do that, a college or high school might help.

Me, I'm a welder, I'd take it to a TIG shop.

Apparently the swingarm has to come off sometime soon. The previous owner didn't have the manual, so I was wondering what size hex key do I need to remove the rear wheel axle and the swingarm bolt?
