.....anyone know how?

and yes S100 DID damage the finish on my primary cover. Is there anything else that won't mess it up? My engine has 15k miles of crap that needs cleaning off.

(I'm one of the people that likes the magnesium finish and don't want to mess it up)

Simple green?

Yes I searched, but nothing really explicitly confirmed what was ok for the primary cover.... although that's not what I need to clean, it's the front on the engine that needs it.

thanks

I do use Simple Green periodically to clean the crap from all the nooks and crannies that collect grime. I haven't noticed any problems with the mag finish.

Blue Coral High-Foam Carwash concentrate... the same stuff i use on my car. i also like the magnesium finish and keep going back and forth between whether or not to black out the primary cover. i've got boot scuffs on mine...

anyway, i use the carwash stuff on the whole bike. i've used brakleen on some of the metal parts (like the muffler) during service, but i never use anything more stringent than the carwash solution for washing. never damaged any finishes, never had trouble getting it clean.

Here's what I do.

After damaging the magnesium paint with a harsh cleaner, I rubbed it down with a fine rubbing compound until it was shiny and the streaks were gone.

Then I sprayed some Plexus on it, and wiped off the compound. Then polished it with a rag.

Now when it gets dirty, I just spray on the Plexus, wipe off the dirt with a paper towel and then buff for a few seconds with a clean rag.

In fact, I clean the entire bike with Plexus. It works great on plastic, and everything else. Great for cleaning the wheels too.

Spraying water on a bike just isn't a good idea, and not really necessary any more.

Simple green cut 20/70 with a little elbow grease can clean anything without damaging it. As long as you use plenty of water to rinse, and DO NOT allow any simple green to dry.

I haven't tried this on any streetbike I own, but an old dirt bike cleaning tip was to spray the engine with armor all let it set for a minute or two, then hose off. Proceed at your own risk.

...then hang on when the washed off Armor All gets all over your tires, and you lean into that first corner!

Don't use Pam....it will embrittle any plastic it is exposed to.

I use nothing but Simple Green. Works great and its non-toxic.

If its full concentrate, dilute it with water. 50/50.
- lightly spray down with water
- spray engine with simple green and wait a few minutes
- scrub dirty parts with a soft brush
- rinse with water
- repeat as necessary. Shouldn't take more than 2-3 times.
- blow dry bike with a leaf blower. It gets the water out areas you cannot get with a towel... and its easier.
- spray a light mist of WD-40 over the motor. It adds protection and a nice shine. Don't get any on the tires or brakes.

I use GOO GONE Spray Gel. Spray on, let soak in, hose off. I don't know about magnesium, but it hasn't hurt my muffler.

Kidding aside, It works pretty good on mine.

Headers just have some little spots. If they were like that, I'd clean them, paint them, and wrap them.
