No Joel, he rotated the bike 180 degrees to keep the oil from leaking until he could get the swingarm fixed. (Just kidding... it took me a bit of staring to work it out as well). Congratulations Repnh (seriously). You just "won the lotto" in terms of opportunity to: 1) Own a great bike (the 9sx is a bike that I appreciate more every day). 2) Get an opportunity to find out first hand how "Buell owners" are different then many other communities. 3) Get an opportunity to find out how the Buell company is different then many other companies. 4) Get an opportunity to take the moral high ground and walk towards the light. The seller was probably a jerk, you clearly aren't. He skulked back to his inwardly focused and self centered life to stew in his own small world, but you are about to find an amazing group of people and a company with integrity and passion. I'm virtually certain you won't be disappointed in any of those four categories. Selling you this problem was one of the worst deals that seller ever made... if he only knew... |

Several pinch bolts, a metric hex of some size, forget which specifically. I just got the set from Harbor Freight and it's in there. You probably want the sockets and a torque wrench anyway, not just the allen keys. Following the torque specs in the manual is a little tedious, but it prevents all sorts of grief in the long run. You have to remove the rear brake caliper, and the idler pulley as well. Neither is a big deal. And there is a specific procedure for unloading the belt tension before the idler wheel gets loosened. Overall it's easy to do, but probably best not to start it without the outstanding factory service manual at your elbow... The actual axle comes out with a "double nut" that is in your toolkit on the bike (or should be). The axle can be pretty tight sometimes, and if you are struggling with it rumor has it that taking that factor "double bolt" which is pretty flexy, and replacing it with a welded together alternative, will work better with an impact wrench. And when that axle goes back in, give it a thick coat of anti-sieze. I welded mine solid, but that may be because I am always looking for an excuse to melt metal |

>>>If a welder can weld aluminum with the quality you want, he most likely won't be on a construction site. That's inaccurate . . in fact HIGHLY inaccurate. All of my I.B.E.W. welders in the power plant business hold a number of certifications and are EXCELLENT welders. Our electricians are welding pressure vessels, iso-phase bus and mission critical components. They are among the best welders in the world. At the risk of sounding simple minded . . . . . wouldn't it just be easier if I sent the dealer a new swing-arm and had them install it? I guess construction work makes me see things in a "problem-solution" blue collar sort of a way . . . pardon me for sounding light of mind . . . but let's get this fixed, eh? If that would help, just let me know and I'll take care of it. . . . if you want to sue somebody, beat somebody up or blame somebody. . . . it'll be a lot more fun while you are riding your Buell rather than worrying about why you can't. Just be thankful you didn't buy a Honda. . . . they don't have construction workers. Court P.S. -the 2006 Buell XB9XS is a FUN bike to ride! |

Hey, Court, I apologize. My reference was to a general construction site. You're obviously at a more skilled and specialized level of construction which is why I referenced looking for indications of TIG. And yes, success is the best revenge. |

The only revenge needed, and sweet it would be, is to ride by in a couple of weeks when it is fixed, say nothing, explain nothing, don't even stop, just wave and smile! |

James: Nice to talk to you. I will be back in touch with you by 3:00PM Tuesday. Thanks for placing your trust and confidence in Buell American Made Motorcycles. Court . . . . I was funnin' ya about the welders. I've always had a special place in my heart for the I.B.E.W. welders . . . I call them the "fumeies" and have asked them to do some amazing welds in some really weird places. The guys are always fabulous and have always come through with a smile. I love construction if you can't tell. |

I hope this means that Court can get you hooked up. That would be the best thing that could happen at this point. It will be much better when this episode is just a old story of yours. Someday it will have just been a rough start to a lot of happy miles. |

Unfortunately, the previous owner had neither the tool kit nor the manual. I need to find both of those somehow. Honestly, I am blown away by this community. Simply blown away. To everyone who gave me advice and had valuable input, a huuuuuge thank you. Its been amazing. And to Court: you couldn't see the huge smile on my face over the phone. I was, and still am, speechless. I still don't know what to say, besides "thank you." Such generosity shown by strangers (clearly, not so much anymore) has restored my faith in people. I love this website. |

It's the 19th case I've closed in 2009. Actually it's a pretty amazing process on several levels . . . remind me to tell you sometime. (Message edited by court on March 24, 2009) |

>>>if there where more people like you in this world it would be a much better place. Good news. I know where 184 of them work. All I do is toss interesting problems in the mixer and out come amazing solutions. I got the nicest letter from James' Father and I'll tell you what I told him . . . the folks at East Troy amaze me more with each passing day. I am the "visible" component of the process but I do damn little . . . credit to The Elves. |

The TOOL KIT has been superseded several times and is now sold as C2024.1AS. The current retail price is $28.95. What manual are you needing? The Owners Manuals can be found on www.buell.com. |
