That's the bike I almost got before deciding to step up to the 1125R. I love that color combination and the SS is a great bike. |

Haha it is a regular XB12Ss model color on buell.com so it would be just as much copying as getting red . And man does that look nice! I really like the look of the bike without the change guard, but I am so worried about chain damamge etc... I want a buell!!!!!!! |

Not to split hairs, it's a belt. BTW you'll love it no matter what color you choose. Enjoy. |

test rides make a world of difference. number one rule friendly mc-frienderton. Dont just ride a buell either, ride both makes, and as many as you can if you want an educated opinion on "what you want" The main idea is to give you something to base an opinion off of, if you ride a used one you can get a better idea of how its gonna break in, metric or buell. I'm sure you know, we.....collectively.....are biased......for a reason........you just gotta ride one to find out |

Coming out of the sport bike world, I found the 9 motor better suited for my style. I enjoy the free-er revving feel of my 9. That's my input- I have ridden several 12 motors and never had any desire to swap. |

test rides make a world of difference jraices problem is that he is only 17 and nobody will let him test ride a bike. So all he has to go on is advice of others. Point-give him good advice= |

But he said he test rode 2 Buells, last week I believe? Whatever the case, take Andy's advice and get one. As for pricing, a new Buell for $10K OTD can be had with a little patience. Granted, it's hard to be patient when that Buell is staring at you on the floor. |

I have test road an XB12R and an XB9SX... Trying to get one more test on a piped XB12Ss but will be getting a buell regardless. I was using this thread more to get pumped up then to really make my decision ... And thats good to hear I can get it a bit cheaper then I thought... And as to the 9 being free'er reving, I only took the 9 for a 2 mile spin but couldnt feel a lot of difference in the feel and had no complaints with the 12's feel (longer ride on city, freeway and back roads) which I really liked... Just needs an exhaust. The sound is really weak stock, especially at idle. It shakes like a high performance twin should (in a good way) but just sounds like a lawn mower ticking over. |

There you have it. Buy a Buell or two and tell your friends (?) to suck it ! You won't be sorry. Hey Too tall, I had a red bike years ago and 'it' was a great ride. Have you ever test rode a black one ? They can be a real handfull at times but boy oh boy do they handle the curves. |

Holy smokes I didnt know he was that young. When I was 17 I painted my dads friends boat for a test ride on his old nighthawk. and I fell over in the garage trying to put the kickstand down after I rode no hitches for about 20 mins around town, go figure. I guess its all how bad you want one if you look at it like that then good advice? get a xb9s. prolly 04-05 year model for best price-to-budget ratio. And buy a service manual. Fun on a bun |

Me to... I would like to test ride another and am working on it... Would also really like to take one in the twisties! If anybody wants to try out my R6 and let me take there XB12 (road an R, want to try some on a bike more similar to what I am getting so an SCG or better yet an Ss) for a short, or longer if you like the R6 , ride would be great and Ill buy lunch up at Alices or whereever we ride! Also any tips on getting the best deal out of the dealer or ideas on what I could get a 2009 XB12Ss for? I went in casually and was told $12K OTD but have heard on here it should be closer to $10K. I really am set on the buell but could go in there and say I also like the Triumph Street Triple (MSRP is around $8600) and say I want the buell more but wont spend much over $10K. Also could get them to throw in some bags as I plan to do some longer rides in the future, and maybe a more expensive seat. |

Considering your age I agree w/ Clutchless.. Buy a used one and have a ball w/ no worries. Girls dont know the diff between years, this will leave more money in your pocket for gear and track days. Have you called your insurance company about the cost of full coverage on a 12? Good thing about buying an 06ish on the cheap is that you can avoid the loan which means you dont have to get full coverage on the bike (just make sure your body is covered). http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2006-Buell-Firebolt -XB12R_W0QQitemZ150331598447QQihZ005QQcategoryZ499 84QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Its even red :P Dont take this as a dig towards your age its just that a good portion of us have been there done that. Unless you got mad cash I dont see how people can actually buy new. My o-ring just wouldnt enjoy that abuse. (Message edited by Caféelite on March 13, 2009) |

Good looking bike! I want a lightning though. Thing is I work hard, made the money to buy my $6000 used R6 in a pretty short amount of time and since then have saved several more grand. Would only need to finance a few grand... I want full coverage anyways, have it on the R6 through my dads carrier we use with all our vehicles and get full coverage, with one 35+mph speeding ticket, 17 year old male on a Yamaha R6 for $425's a year . I cant imagine the XB12 would make that cost go up... Most likely stay similar or go down a bit even. And there are lots of used bikes but I just want that experience of owning my own bike, doing every mod myself. Also the blacked out 09's are gorgeous, have lots of upgrades (better belt, all black, ZTL2 brakes from 1125R not to mention updates to engine from 2008)... And think of it this way, if nobody bought new, where would all the used bikes come from !!! |

After being hit by an uninsured driver (years back in my then 3/4 ton GMC), I will never own a vehicle that can be driven in traffic without full coverage. I dunno where you get ins from, but in FL no one will sell full coverage m-cycle ins that low. I *think* I pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $650 through State Farm. My policy has 100/300/100 limits and a $500 ded, same coverage I have on my truck. Clean record. And I haven't been 17 for... almost 17 years now. This is completely IMO- buy new, don't buy someone else's problems. (Message edited by saratoga on March 13, 2009) |

....problem is that insurance companies generally only look at displacement. They see 1203cc and $ signs pop up in their eyes.... |

True space. Full coverage with high limits on my new Aprilia Tuono (1000cc) is half what I was charged for my XB12 or BMW HP2 (1170cc). |

Very true. You tell them it's a 1203 and has a name like "Lightning" and they cha-ching instantly try to tell you it's going to cost your left testicle. State Farm is bad about that because they really don't know bikes. |

I am going to get a certified quote from my agent before making a purchase... However, the bike will be newer but I think the R in my current bike is enough to cancel out the 1203 in the lightning. I think its something like 68 percent of super sports are totaled within a year of ownership... Not good odds for a Yamaha R6. |

If your under your parents insurance still then take it while you can, its gonna shoot up when you start your own policy jraice. I pay $146 every other month for full coverage on my lightning. to put things into perspective.....I have my own policy, am 24 yrs old with good record. and my 2004 mustang gt's insurance is LESS than the bike for me... insurance companies are a buncha buracratic ninnies but they do know their risk factors. yea, get on your parents insurance and milk it while you can. Lower displacement and no "R" in the model number helps. and the longer you go without a police report the lower your rates go, its that simple. Thats what I have learned from nationwide insurance, at least with my rates. +1 on the qoute before you dive into a policy, just like a test ride gotta have one, from as many sources as possible. |
