I hope I am not overstepping my bounds here but was wonder if anyone would be willing to share a their fuel map? I have an 04 XB12s, Open Air Mod, K&N, and Hawk Performance Exhaust Muffler (Not a fully gutted muffler). Can't take it to a dyno any time soon and know it is a running rich. Thanks, R71

Just curious whats making you think its running rich?

All of those mods seem like they would lean it out, and stock I assume for emissions, atleast on the bottom end, its probably pretty lean already.

Sorry...I meant it is running lean as it is popping a lot when decelerating and I just figure it is based upon other posts.

Ah got you...

That makes a lot more sense.

Can you find a race ECM possibly? Not sure if they are truly impossible to find...

I have heard that it compliments those mods nicely (well, K&N and drummer atleast).

A lot of people like the pops, adds character ; ). But if it truly bugs you or you want more power down low the race ecm is a good way to go if you cant find a map.

Oh and e-mail the guy (cant remember his name) at American Sport Bike, I believe he is pretty knowledgable and has some maps.

I might email Al (?) at American Sport Bike but would feel a tad guilty since I have purchased from him yet. I was under the impression I could change the fuel map via the ECMSPY software I used to do the TPS.

One thing I didn't consider is just popping someone elses fuel map into my ECM and it be a "joke" which is set really lean and fraggin my bike. I guess that is the chance I am taking by being cheap and not getting it set via someone with the skill set and dyno.

One potential solution that I am considering is working with Pete at Grandstanddesigns.com. http://grandstanddesigns.com/shop/index.php?l=product_list&c=8 These guys have a ecm fuel map that they will sell you that works with ECM spy. They have something that is set up for a drummer and an K&N. Haven't tried it yet but interested. Looks like an 04 would cost you $99.

Also, have talked to several people with 08's and the popping can also be caused by running a little rich and having unburning fuel combust in the header. Artic_12_R reported that his 08 was running lean with a drummer exhaust. just fyi

Its probably the A/F but one thing to check, if the pipe is not sealing perfectly at the joints this could allow air in which could make it pop as well.

I put sealant on my pipe as well and it still popped. Some have had success..takes only a few minutes.

If you have ever had the header pipes off without changing the exhaust gaskets or even just wiggled the header pipes when mounting a slip-on exhaust and didn't change gaskets, you really SHOULD seal up the exhaust header flanges with new gaskets.

Proper torque, even torque side-to-side, yadda yadda yadda.

Q: What does deceleration popping tell me about CL or WOT fueling?

A: Nothing.

Rocket, you can (should?) 'look' at new-to-you maps via ECM Spy BEFORE loading 'em into your bike.
Consider downloading, "fetching", the maps you're using today. Look 'em over, get to know them.
Make a crude, easy to read throttle position scale, so you can glance down to take-note of throttle position when interesting engine behaviors occur.
I've read and re-read the ECM Spy tuning guide. It got better after the first couple passes.

I will share my maps for my stock '04 XB12R w/micron (mostly based on fuel maps published in tuning guide), but that's not what you have.

Enjoy the journey : )
