I just bought a 2004 Firebolt XB12 and the previous owner put a LSL triple tree raised bars. It's a little to upright for me, and looking to swap it out for either stock or (put suggestion here) I already looked at putting clubmans on the LSL triple tree but it doesn't clear the forks. He also raised the front assembly about 3 inches so the raised bars would clear, I plan to lower it.. Any ideas?     (Message edited by quiknss on March 08, 2009) | ||

ask the previous owner where he put the stock stuff, so you can put it back to stock  | ||

i might actually be interested in doing a swap for the stock upper tree, bars and brake line on the gf's bike. its odd that he raised the fairing. the lsl for the buell is designed to clear the stock fairing with no modification. looks like he also chopped off the ignition switch mount for some reason. it should be in the stock location even with those bars. probably moved it because he raised the front fairing and it wouldnt clear. where the heck is your key switch mounted???? thats going to throw a big kink in things... looks like that jardine needs some help also. I thought the LSL top had the key hole in the stock loc? You can get the triple tree top off o ebay or maybe in the parts section here. I was thinking of gettin the superbar conversion kit one day... where is your ignition switch now? | ||

It's currently tucked under the headlight assembly secured with a zip tie. I first thought it was there stock, and then found that he moved it after looking at other ones online. He raised the front because the bars would hit the windscreen. Yeah the exhaust needs a new piece of rubber between the holder and the exhaust itself. Only had the bike for 3 weeks. Was in the shop for the first 2  low beam headlight broke on the ride home from the dealership... (Message edited by quiknss on March 08, 2009) | ||

He raised the front because the bars would hit the windscreen. The LSL kit fits fine using the LSL bar provided with it (AN1/LN1). http://www.lsl-motorradtechnik.de/artikelbilder/77 2846946466fec4c9e338.jpg I changed both my bolts to that and no problems at all. | ||

From the pictures, it looks like my bar is more upright, or bent.. must have went with a more agressive bar? The pictures u just posted is a totally diff triple tree then is on mine. Maybe he bought or recieved the wrong one and just made it work.. (Message edited by quiknss on March 09, 2009) | ||

Or got a really good deal on one he could make work. Check the parts for sale section, i think theres at least 1 xb9/12r triple tree top there. The clipon style bars are $23 each new. If theres a part number on that thing you can look up what its supposed to go on and sell it on ebay (or here) to more than make up the cost of coverting back to stock. | ||

Does modified fairing position and its fastener-bracket perform acceptably? I'm considering similar mods. Functionally, it seems a fairing adjustment goes hand-in-hand with raising the bars. Rider is sitting at steeper angle, raising his torso. So, oncoming wind stream ideally is raised, too. Especially, with amount of handlebar rise in thread's picture! | ||

I keep looking for the "parts for sale" section. All I can find is the parts/apparal and such forum. If anyone can navigate me i would appriciate it. The higher fairing does block more wind with the upright position. I have been on a 200 mile long ride, stoping once for gas, and there was no pain in my back at all. I just feel cramped on the around town rides or if I have someone on the back. I will check the Trippletree when I get home to see if I can find a part number. I tried to get lower handlebars even on the current setup, but where it attaches to the tripletree, it pulls it back instead of going straight up, so the bars would hit when I turn them.  That would have been ideal to just switch out the bars, so for long rides I could be upright and around town be more comfortable.. but it doesn't seem that easy anymore. | ||

The pictures u just posted is a totally diff triple tree then is on mine. That's a pict from LSL, maybe an early version. Current triple trees look like yours. | ||

Thanks No_rice, I picked up the Triple Tree from the classified section, and got the clipon's from the harley store around the corner. Once I get them in the mail this weekend, I get to have fun learning how to put them on. I know this isn't the technical forum but if anyone has any tips I would apriciate it. (again) Thanks! |
