I am wondering what kind of bags everyone else uses. Specifically a tank bag and saddles. Looking to see what there is other than the Buell ones. Thanks |

Got a pair of Cortech Sports. They seem like a pretty good bag, but having gotten them for Christmas, I haven't really had a chance to use them yet. Couple things to note: - They are about 33% larger than the buell bags - They attach securely to the bike (XB12Ss) with some inventive strap routing - The front hanger strap is very wide at about 6" and interferes with the wiring harness under the seat so you have to just set them on top of the seat - Both of them interfere with the passenger pegs limiting you to solo riding with them installed - More separate storage areas than the Buell bags - And 3lbs/bag Buell vs. 10 lbs/bag Cortech Overall, based upon close examinations of both (I have Buell bags too), I think I like the Cortechs better. Not that I am looking to get rid of the Buell bags, I think they will be good for short trips. I guess I better wait until I get some miles on both before I pass final judgment on either though. Hope that helps!! (Message edited by doubled on February 17, 2009) |

I also have the Cortech Sport saddlebasgs and matching tailbag. Love em. http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/tpl/product.jsp?stor e=&catId=407&leafCatId=40710&skuId=505204&productI d=505203&mmyId= I question if they are the same as the ones mentioned above, because: 1) They are easily double the size of the Buell bags...and then you zip open the expandable part and they are triple the size. 2) I did not need to do any inventive strap routing on my 03 9S- very easy mount. 3) They are meant to sit on top of the seat (unlike the Buell bags) 4) Passengers fit fine (feet go in front of the bags...), but then again, they did with the Buell bags as well. FWIW, I used to have these: http://www.buell.com/en_us/gear/accessories/produc t.asp?Menu_ID=2&ProductLineID=3&CategoryID=4&Produ ctID=2228 I love the Cortechs, leaps and bounds better than the Buell bags. I also run a Joe Rocket tank bag- I like it because it attaches/detaches easily, and it is an "in between" size: not hideously large, but fits all my crap (ipod, wallet, phone, GPS, etc.) I thin the key here is to figure out what you need to be carrying in the tank bag. I find larger tank bags extremely annoying. I have a Buell messenger bag for work- keeps my laptop safe and isolated from the vibes. Plus it has an extra strap around the waist that keeps it located and more secure. |

Try Ortlieb, Wolfman, Touratech, and Chase Harper. I am going to buy the Wolfman Expedition Tank Bag from 'Aerostich' wich is a great company and also make bags. |

Any backpack work for me. I would never put a bag on my bike, just looks to balky IMO. |

I've got Cortech bags too. They go on and off easily and carry quite a bit. I prefer not to wear a backpack in case I go down. |

Tank bag: Factory Buell tank bag. There is nothing better designed for your airbox. Saddlebags: I have a full set of Ortlieb's and a dufflebag. http://www.aerostich.com/catalog/US/Ortlieb-DryBag -Saddlebags-p-16156.html They are 100% waterproof, and completely dust proof (more important then you think) |

I just saw Ventura bags www.ventura-bike.com - you need to install their rack that comes with (they make one for Buells), but it looks like a great design - you can hold "51 liters" (12+ gallons?) in each of the two bags. Then, when you don't want the rack on the bike, you remove the upright part and replace it with a small pillion grab bar - nice setup - but I wonder how the weight would be up high, instead of low like saddlebags... anyone have these? |

Tank bag: I like the Buell deluxe bag. The attachment to the bike is great and it holds a spare visor just perfect. Saddle bags: I use Aerostitch tank panniers. I cross the straps so they hang better over uneven surfaces then adjust them so the bags rest on the foot pegs. The bags have internal elastic cords. I wrap them around the heel guards and then come around the bag and snap them together. Simple and quick. Beware though, these bags are water resistant, not water proof. Put the contents in plastic bags or small waterproof stuff sacks. Ventura rack: I use the one made of the TT. The rails are made so they will go outside the number plates. They are not tucked under the seat rails like that made for the SS BUT they hold the top bag lower and closer to the bike for a tighter look overall. Obviously they will work with the optional passenger kit. The Ventura bag is great but the 51L model will not work well if turned to face the passenger seat...it encroaches on the rider. The smaller bags will work fine though and can zip to the 51 L bag for outstanding capacity.
