I thought you guys were kidding about the rust, but I looked at my '07 with 5k miles and IT'S RUSTY! When it warms up here, I'll pull it off and give it the HT BBQ paint treatment. | ||

Just buy a drummer, Harley fans and you alike will appreciate it! ...when i had my stocker i wiped it down with WD40 about once a month I hear that helps. | ||

True, the muffler is covered up. I just don't want it to rust through since I plan to keep the bike a while. I've had my other bikes since '77 & '80. Even aftermarket parts supplies aren't guaranteed. | ||

Sometimes I get a kick out of this . . . when I pay EXTRA for rust (you've seen the big brown electrical transmission poles) it's called "Corten Self-Weathering Steel". When I don't want rust I can't get rid of it when I need it I get charged extra for it . . . . frickin' story of my life! | ||

Both the Odie and the Drummer use the original, rust-prone shell as the stock muffler. I don't see how EITHER is an improvement in this area. | ||

Both get new (better) paint. Drummer also offers ss or cf. | ||

If you always want it to look showroom, try to find someone in your area that does ceramic coating. | ||

With CorTen, the surface rust protects the rest of the steel, so no further protective coating is needed and you made a wise choice. (Although chrome would have looked good.) Not always a plus, though; my former employer had a big job at a power plant where the coal bunkers were CorTen and the sliding coal wore through and dumped 100s of tons of coal on the floor. Our new design used a different grade of steel. | ||

can you tell us what you think of your Drummer? I am a bit skeptical I have a Drummer and it works well, loud and more power. It didn't need any mods for instalation wich took an hour (minus time spent on a bolt I stripped). On the Drummer the exhaust valve is bypassed on the Spec-ops it's still functional I believe. I searched this forum and others and found no negitive on either pipe. American sport bike has a dyno run and sound clips with a bunch of different pipes. | ||

If you otherwise like the stock pipe...listen to Brazenbuck and get the offending piece ceramic coated..it will cost less than a new muffler..and unless you gouge the finish...it will never rust again... Paint is a temporary "fix" at best. Court: "I stood the bike back up. All is well"  | ||

Arctic_Firebolt, I love my Drummer. It's moderately loud but really deep when at idle and pretty damn loud when accelerating or cracking the throttle! Power delivery is better in the mid + high range but not much of a difference in the low RPM's. Craftsmanship is great and it only took an hour to install. Kevin Drum is a great guy to deal with and will gladly talk Buell/motorcycle with you all day regardless of the topic. Give him a call, he'd busy but willing to talk about our bikes. My advice, get one...taxes just came and you WON'T regret it! Good luck man | ||

Also, wipe every rust-able thing down with WD40 every once and a while! It catches dust and stinks when burning off your pipes but well worth IMHO. |
