I really hate how bumping old threads doesn't move them out of the archives...

Regardless, I'm installing the Custom Chrome Clutchlite plate this weekend. For anyone who has ever taken the inner and outer ramp assemblies off inside the primary, did you use a new retaining clip when reinstalling, or just use the original clip?

A new one. One usually come with the new ramp. They are a dime a dozen at any auto parts store. I am actually replacing mine soon with the Muller Power clutch as soon as the weather warms up here, along with the clutch cable itself. It melted part of the cable on the headers last summer. Clutch cable retaining clip broke of course, Got a new and better one also to hold it in place better...I hope.

Good news that it's a standard clip and available anywhere. Hopefully it'll just be with the ramp; if not, there's a couple stores locally. I was just trying to avoid a trip to the HD dealer - closest one is 20 mins or so.

I'm sure to be safe you should use a new one.....

that said, put a clutchlite plate on my xb12 last summer (x-soft w/ 30% reduction in pull). Very nice!

If you're just careful to not deform the clip when removing it, it will snap back on just fine. Just my experience: )

As an FYI, I reused the old ring. As long as you don't deform it, it'll snap right back on. I had to use needlenose Vice Grips to get it off/on though!

The Clutchlite is an awesome product. Tested for 60 miles so far, it definitely reduced clutch effort by about the advertised 30% (I bought the "soft" one). Definitely worth my $47!

So is the Muller and the Clutchlite the same thing? Or is the Clutchlite just the inside ramp? If so, I just spent a grip on the Muller...

Mine didn't come with a new clip, But they are available at the hardware store.

I used my old one with no ill effects......

The Clutchlite replaces just the outer (inner? I don't remember) ramp with 3 models available:

soft 20% (mfg advertised reduction in force)
x soft 30%
xx soft 40%

The Muller replaces both inner and outer ramps with a 40% reduction in pull force.

I chose the x soft and not the xx soft, only because I didn't know if I'd have enough lever travel for full clutch disengagement. (as it turns out, not an issue)

Clutchlite does indeed just replace the inner ramp. The Muller has both ramps, plus the ball bearings.

I thought the "soft" Clutchlite was 30%... In this case, the 20% is definitely enough, but the 30% would not be overkill.}

That old archived thread was probably mine.

You really don't need a new clip. If you'll feel better with a new clip go ahead a replace it. It's cheap.

The Clutchlite is just only the inner ramp, and it works well. I went with the 'Soft.' I've had it for 20k miles or so with no issues.
