I have continental sport attacks on my XB9R and need a new rear tire. I am not an aggressive rider, and do no track days. I have a chance at a NEW Michelin Pilot Race very cheap. My question is since it is more a track tire, what are the consequences of this? |

I've been advised not to do so. I was going to do that with my Pirelli's. I found a damn good deal on a race tire. I was told it wouldn't heat quick enough with casual riding. But before you pull that rear....smoke it til it blows... |

yeah, i tried smoking it til it blows las time, but those dag-on pirelli's stick too good. a track tire might not be the best thing for the street. http://www.michelinmotorcycle.com/img/pilotchartlg .jpg i dunno if the mileage you'll get out of it will make it worth the mounting and balance fees. but it's your ride |

Shorter life is the biggest factor. If you don't ride aggressively they won't come up to temperature where they have all the grip. Off temp, at least on my race car tires, they have less grip than normal street tires. |

yeah. I was trying my best to make it ok. Its $70 for the new pilot race or $40 for a pilot road (1/2) tread life left. I wasnt sure the pilot road would be a good mix with my Sport attack front tire. |

I have the Pilot Roads on my bike right now and i got about 10k miles on my rear tire. I ended up getting the same tire. I would also suggest if you are going to replace the back, you should replace the front at the same time. If your front has a lot of life left, you dont want to mix and match tires. Keep them the same on both front and back. |

Most manufactures recommend against mixing due to different grip levels and different profiles. That being said, this time of year, I run whatever I have sitting in the basement in the worst shape because they are all going to end up square. OTOH, I mount my own tires, so it costs me nothing other than a few wheel weights. |

I was running a race tire on the front, but I liked my pirelli better.... stick with street tires |
