I have a XB12 I've been working on blacking out. A search shows that the black covers are only available for the 9 engines. Has anyone found an easier way to change to the 9 cover without messing with the gearing? |

I second that, I've gone through too many primary covers, they are $220+tax a piece.. it will be cheaper to spray paint it :2cents: |

Thought it would need to be powdercoated due to heat? Some posts have said that the 9 cover isn't direct bolt on, that its a little narrower or something. Will update after more searching. |

I think it was late night reading. Issue was 03-05 interchangable, 06 and up not. Sorry for the misdirected post. I'll be ordering some wrinkle black spray. Thanks. |

I put XB9 primary and cam covers on my 05 12R. They bolted right up and I sold the ugly magcheesium for almost what I bought new ones for on Ebay. |

I ordered an XB9 Primary cover for a friend's 2007 XB12R. It was identical to the one it replaced (except for the colour). Bolted straight on. No difference. |

Isn't the whole XB lineup for 09 black? 9's and 12's? |

Check out Ironmachine.com - you can order new Buell primary covers for $229 with shipping included. They offer both colors - wrinkle black & magnesium. Just ordered the wrinkle black for my '06 Ss last night. There is a production change on the primary cover from '05 - '06 models. Read the descriptions wisely! |

Yep, all the covers are the same size no matter what color you get. NO, from 03-05 the shift shaft diameter is smaller. ALL 03-05's will interchange and all 06-up will interchange. |

Mine swapped right over from '03 to '06. If it is smaller, it's no more than 1mm difference. Why did they make the change so minimal or change it at all?? (Message edited by duff24 on January 18, 2009) |

+1 on the HD black wrinkle paint. I blacked out an 85 sporty with the stuff, and it worked great. I put over 5000 mi on the bike, and it never dulled, chipped, peeled or anything. Just clean the surface to be painted with something that leaves no residue. The more consistent the application, the better the finish. Lots of very light coats did a beautiful job. That HD wrinklecoat is almost bulletproof. |
