my friend,
I don't believe you can smoke an R6 with an XB 12!
my suggestion is: enjoy your fun ride, unique and torquey, but you can't compete with a 4 cylinders!
the only way with a 2 cylinders you can keep up a 4, is for you to buy one of these:

On long straights, I can outrun the 600's and hang with 1000's up to about 100 on my stock 08 12R. After that I may as well have thrown an anchor off the back. The 12 isn't much faster than the 9 at all until you get to 100+

Out at the drag strip, my first run was a 12.04@114,second was a 12.05@115, both times I got beat by at least 10mph in the top end by a 600 I4. Both Yamahas, one was a 05 and another a 07.

A buddy with a 07 CBR 1000RR (or whatever it is) was running low 11's and it was his first time on the strip. Another buddy on a ZX10 was well into the 11's and the couple guys with 600's I ride with were high 11's. All novices on the track. I'm not a novice to the track, just a new bike, with a horrible 60' time. If I can cut my 60' down I could take almost a half second off of my time. I was too afraid of the torque these things have that night and was worried about looping it off the line, I was launching at 3-3.5k.

Dude you have been eating what Tim has. Stay out of the powder sugar. Your bike won't and can't. 12 second ET's??? Thats pretty good. But the 600's will run a full second faster at the strip with a descent rider aboard. Enjoy your Buell for what is... I do and have for many years. But I know what it can and connot do.

I haven't been eating anything Bads1, these are all personal experience from people I ride with. I agree once wound up even the 600 I4's are a force the 12 cannot touch. But coming off the line from a dead stop the Buell will eat them alive, it takes them that long to catch up. The 1000 I4's didn't start pulling on me hard until we were at speed.

I believe the 12's. I've seen it time and time again at my local. But to out run 600's you can't. To beat them at the strip??? Go ride a 600 for yourself down the strip. I'll bet you go second faster or better. If you don't your sand bagging.

Nice run by the way. But the guy in the other lane rode the clutch out bad and had a terrible start. You seem to be doing well.

There's a lot of opinion in this thread : )...

Here's some more...

The XB12R and the 1125R can hang with the 1000's in the turns, and even in the short straights between the turns. It's when you get to a long straight that they show their weakness. The eleven to a lesser extent of course.

The non-opinion part...

I've passed IL4 1000's on racetracks and back roads on an XB12R. Not in the straights. They walk the frick away from me on the straights.

The tighter the track or back road the more the advantages of the XB and 1125 show. Once you get to a certain point the Buells become the better choice. To minimize the disadvantage you must add power because that's what's lacking. To maximize the advantage you add suspension.

So...

It all depends on where you're playing.

And...

I generally beat the 600's by about 20' in the first 150-200'. I also beat them coming out of second gear turns. At my local racetrack there's a turn where you apex in second at about 3000RPM on a 12. The 600's will lose about 10' to about half way down the next straight, then gain that 10' back down the rest of the straight. It's not enough for them to get around me typically, and I then gain about 20' on them by the time we get back around to that turn again.

The XB12 is very competitive with the 600's on a tight track. In the right hands it's also very competitive with the 1000's on a tight track.

If the track isn't so tight... See ya IL4.

One more thing...

Posting a pic of a 1098 with the caption "the only way with a 2 cylinders you can keep up a 4, is for you to buy one of these: " is ridiculous.

The way to keep up with a 4 on a 2 (of Wisconsin origin) is to lure them into the twisty bits and not allow yourself to be tempted with long straight line races ; ).

If you're not keeping up with IL4's in the deep mountains you're not riding well.

If you're not keeping up with the IL4's on the straights... Get an IL4 and then stay away from the Buells in the mountains : ).

It's really that simple.

I said I can outrun them up to about 100mph, I didn't say flat out run them, we can pull on them from a stop. After 100 we may as well be draggin an anchor cause the 600's are gone as evidenced by the vid at the strip. I may have phrased it better by not saying on long straights, I should have said from a stop.

I am in agreement with you guys on most everything said here.

Bads that was actually a horrible launch on my part 2.5 second 60'. Most bikes were cutting a 2.0 60' that night.

SrWitt...

What that video shows is pretty well exactly what I see when I line up against a 600. I get to about 75-80MPH and I start hearing them catching me, about 90-100 and they're even or pulling away.

Yeah you said you can out run a liter bike to 100. Your full of it. I'm a experienced rider of 23 years now and not afraid to turn the throttle. I have friends that have 600's,1000's. I can beat the lesser experinced on the 600's. The 1000's will walk me by second gear. I know what they can do. I've been riding Buell's for 10 years now. I've had inlines,V-Max. I love my Buell,it does what I need it to. I'm butting out of this thread. To much Kool-aid here.

Second gear on most modern 1000's is what 80-100mph, we can hang with them, we're not going to beat them but hang with them. I'm done with this thread, I'm not trying to argue, just trying to share MY EXPERIENCES. Whether the 1000's I've ridden with were scared to twist the throttle or not, I do not know, I know what I've seen and experienced nothing more. Like I said, I am in agreement with most of what you guys have said, and I know the 600 in the vid didn't catch and pass me until 100ish. He only had a couple bike lengths on me at the end of the 1320.

I had inlines before my buell (suzuki 600 and 750). No doubt your duc will do that easy. Im just saying the guy had a decent run against a 600. Who really cares? Good run, end of story. No Buell will touch your bike or any other of the bigger inlines, and I don't think anyone will argue with that. It just nice to see that the buells are not being completely destroyed on the strip. $40,000 should get you those numbers. For now I will just have fun on my lightning.

Ed if your Ducati will do 200 it was geared down considerably. My dentist and friend has a Tamburini and it won't do that and the price tag is way out of that Ducati's ball league. He also has a 999r... it won't do 200. Your bike is listed on MCN as 180 mph. It takes alot to get over 200. Without Nitrous etc, etc.

Dana, My bike has a HPE full exhaust that is a prototype made for a friend of mine who race with an R. he sold it to me...
as he sold me a $2.000 ECU that is not like the classic Termignoni you find in the market, but was programmed for him and beside giving me a better curve, it moved my rev-limiter of 1.500rpm, so now my bike cuts at 11.500. my bike is way faster than another friend's one with same set up but complete Termignony system and Termignoni Race ECU.
add a race filter, and those 180mph you mentioned become easily 200! and trust me, with the electronic, you don't need nitrous!!!

DAYYYYUMMM you have a 1098R!!! my buddy has a 1098 with R plastics

I've seen a motorccle magazine listing on 0-200mph..
and the 1098R has the first 5gears averagly short holding modest trackday speeds, and the 6th gear is long as hell to get it to toptop speed

Here's my Dentists bike. It is infact the fast bike period. The best of the best is in this bike. A factory race permitted Buell ECM will run over 1/2 that. A pipe does not give 20 mph then your bike tested. Read the specs of this bike below.

Dana,
I know very well the bike you are talking about, I owned a Brutale before the Ducati.
this was my Brute...

with 15 grand in upgrades!!!
I know very well the F4 Tamburini, his designer now retired...
that bike makes 155hp at rear wheel with a full exhaust, you can call Ducati Miami and ask yourself.
I'm enough prepare about bikes and I don't like to talk sh*t...

I'll tell you more about the F4 Tamburini: same engine of the F4S and F4R, the only bike that had a bigger engine was the F4 Claudio Castiglioni, 120 grand bike, with the same 1078 engine that comes now with all the F4. and the 312R, which should have different heads, but I'm not sure.
I will find out for you guys tomorrow...
the Tamburini was a special edition, with Marchesini Forged magnesium wheels, Marzocchi front forks, lot of carbon and that's it...
