Does the Drummer fit the 12? Is the exup valve retained? Where can I find torque curves for one set up on a 12? Apparently the factory kit mucks up the power and torque and it makes a lot less than standard. No use in that! Bike is great, done 1400 miles on it now, touched 130 mph and reckon it would probably top out at just under 145ish, but hanging on is the problem, so it is academic really. Just needs something to stop it sounding like half a vw beetle. All the pipes that I have seen so far (like the HSA, Lucky hands and Sebring) all seem to dip in the midrange. |

Airbox scroll down in the archives to the through November 23 and then look for updates and revisions of the DRUMMER.Otherwise Bubba will chime in soon and tell ya all about them.I have one on a 12S and it awesome,no power loss across the RPM's at all.The valve in the pipe???Kiss it goodbye. You will also see oyher threads about the drummer in the archives. The pipe does really really well you'll love it. |

airbox heres a dyno chart for ya. the valve is not used. You will need the race ecm and filter. as you can see it keeps the smooth power and gets a few in gains. price with exchange is $350 I can also get you the ecm and filter at a 10%discount. it also loses about 9 lbs or so. email me if you have anymore questions or call me at tilley's 704-872-3883 Brian Tilley hd/buell buckinfubba@hotmail.com |

Cheers Bubba, I live in the UK so it would have to be a pipe without exchange. I cant really make out the torque curves on the chart you put on. How does it compare with the standard and is that chart for the 9 as the power and torque figures don't tie up with standard ones |

airbox The torque line is the long broad line going across the top. and the hp is the one that starts low and goes up. yes that is on a 12. the lines right below the drummer are the stock 12 power curves. Everydyno reads different so the numbers I wouldn't worry about so much. but you can see the gains. as far as matching up with the standard ones this is very much in line with that. If you are talking numbers in the brochure, those are quoted at the crank not the wheel. shipping to the uk would be about $60 us via air mail. ups will be about twice that and priority mail I am not sure about. The run on the drummer was stopped a little before red line so what you see here numbers wise is about 91 hp at the wheel and about 74 ft/lbs of torque. this was run on the Iowa buell store dyno which is know to read low. But again I stress to look at the lines and not the numbers. the gains are there and the smooth power is still intact. I hope this helps |

thanks for that, understand the graph now. Looks good. Is the Drummer made from a 9 pipe or a 12? |

Bubba, does the Drummer come with instructions as to what to do with the exup? I would have thought that it could not just be disconnected as the return signal to the ecu would be in the wrong position as the valve is spring loaded and is just pulled by the wire. Sorry for all the questions but it is a long way to get a pipe, but I want the right one ! |

Airbox, Here's what ya do... Take off your muffler you will see the cable connected to the top of your muffler...Disconnect it. Then, open up your airbox and you will see the stepper motor disconnect the cable from that. Then you will have to fish the cable out from the bike. When you reinstall your drummer you'll not need the cable. Put your new ecm in located under your seat there's 2 plugs one for the stepper motor and one for plugging in your ecm. Keep your stepper motor plugged in to your new race ecm. It needs to be there so your engine light does not come on. Basically what I am saying..is the bike needs to believe that it is still there. It just won't have a cable connected to it any longer. If you decide to order one any one on this board that has piped a 12 would be able to help ya. |

thanks dana Hey airbox everything he said is correct. hell I forgot I have service manuals and all that good stuff here. as he said leave it plugged in. It won't mess with the ecm because all it does is tell the actuator to move the valve open and close and such. Since the valve is not involved it just doesn't matter. just so you know the buell race kit and all the after market pipes work exactly the same in this area . so there ya go. again thanks dana. |

Now I'm confused Bads! The stepper motor and cable were removed from my bike and I don't get any "check engine" light, I was under the impression the race ecm doesn't operate the stepper motor... If Airbox is the cautious type, he could leave the disconnected cable and stepper motor in the bike, just in case he wanted to go back to stock, which would be highly unlikely. |

While you're here Dana, I extracted some Drummer audio from your original recording. Right-click and "save target as". Once downloaded, takes 1 second, change the file extension from .mid to .mp3

The sound file was uploaded as an mp3, something on the BBS makes it download as a midi file i.e. the file that you download is named "drummer9-42944.mid" Change the filename to "drummer9-42944.mp3" and your puter's mp3 player will do the rest. BTW I think the check engine light only comes on with the stepper motor disconnected if you're still using the stock ecm.

opto, correct. the stock ecm wants to see the stepper motor connected. if it doesn't, it turns on the trouble light. the race ecm does not operate the stepper, and it does not care if it is missing. if you use the race ecm with the drummer can, you will not need to leave the stepper lump in place. |

Same here: It completely removed the stepper on my bike (race ECM) and it runs just fine without error codes |

Thanks for that people. Still a bit confused tho as some pple say leave it connected, others say the race ecm doesn't plug into the stepper motor ..... From what I can work out from the wiring diagram there are two wires from the ecm, the active muffler control which appears to be on its own (altho I can't see it on the bike), the active muffler feedback which is on one of the multiplugs and a positive feed from the fuse. Also an earth from the stepper motor itself. If the active muffler control sends a signal to the stepper (which is only operated one way as the valve is sprung) Then won't the feedback be wrong if the valve is in the wrong position or is the feedback just to complete the circuit? |

I'll use terminology from the fm to try to avoid confusion: the Interactive Muffler Control Actuator which lives under the airbox cover and controls the butterfly valve in the muffler via a cable consists of a servo motor, electronics, reduction gearbox and a hall effect sensor for position feedback to the ecm. The race ecm doesn't care if the actuator is connected or not. The active muffler control wire from the ecm is on its own, it plugs in between the 2 main connectors of the ecm. The actuator has its own power feed and ground. The ecm sends it a controlling signal and receives from it a position signal. The actuator is operated both ways, not just one way, the spring is there to take up the slack as the cable lets go. The ecm monitors the position of the actuator but it cannot tell if the cable has been removed or if the butterfly in the muffler is missing or in the wrong position. Hope this helps. |

BTW once the actuator is removed one suddenly finds a very discreet place to conceal all sorts of emergency supplies!

opto and fullpower thanks for the info. I had heard what BADS1 had heard so I went with that. but yeah it makes since that it wouldn't matter with the race ecm. I haven't put one on myself so I didn't know. airbox are ya ready for the drummer yet! |
