Hey guys just wanted to see what other riders are using for HID's in the bikes. I ride an '07 xb12s and I really want to put HID's in them. I have them in my car and love them. Has anyone put them on a lightning and how tight is it fitting everything in? What kind did you get and from where? Any sort of a link would be great as well as pics/videos....Thanks guys
I am running twin HIDs, an 8500K high beam and a 3500K super yellow low beam (for fog), and have since relocated the ballasts to the space under the inner airbox cover.
I've run them for 22,000 miles without incident. Best lighting upgrade for the money.
BTW, the S following me is running projector beam headlights that are about twice the brightness of stock for comparison.
cool thanks man...also i am at school and therefore dont have my bike or service manual so what kind of bulb is the low beam for an 07 xb12s? Thanks a ton
Did the wiring mod which allows both hi and lo to be on during high beam mode. Then, added these with the slimline ballast option. Mounted ballasts to back of flyscreen. One of the best mods I've made..world O difference.
I went with the 8k temp, but if I did it over again, id go with the 6k. I'd like it to be just a little more white and less blue, but its not too blue as is!
Im thinking I want both high and low beams HID's and so do you guys think if i buy the slim ballasts from xenonrider that they will both fit behind my flyscreen and headlight?
Is the hi beam an H7 bulb too or is it different? and is there any drawbacks to the thinner ballast as far as lifetime of the HID's
I have HID bulbs on both high/low beams but have an XBR. Don't know if you could fit everything behind the screen of an S. It's pretty crowded in there already.
Glitch, AmericanSportBike no longer carries the Mig projector lights. Which kinda sux.
Tf1175, If you can fit a pack of cigarettes behind your fly screen you can fit 2 slim ballasts. I've got a pair I'm going to be installing soon. I can't believe how tiny they are, and don't see any reason they wouldn't fit.
I'm not a fan of HID lights in the hi-beam reflector. I feel that the high cut-off (glare) is a nuisance to oncoming traffic, and anyone who happens to be in front of me. Since the balasts/lights need time to warm up turning them on/off isn't an option. But many people are happy to run their lights that way. So if you like it, do it.
The only reason I was debating getting both hi and low HID's was to have them match (might look weird having a blue light and yellow light on at same time) because i will be doing the headlight mod that has both lights on when my highs are on. And its cheaper to buy the pack of 2 now rather than buy 1 now and then decide later on i want another.
Can anyone tell me that has done the headlight mod that when they switch from low to high if their low beams stays on or does it quickly turn off then back on? The reason I ask is because if I only get one HID for my low then i don't want to be constantly switching my the low beam on and off but i would imagine that with the headlight mod the low stays on all the time when you switch to and form high beams???
I haven't done the headlight mod. But if I understand the schematic correctly the low beam will stay on w/o interruption.
I think some people have had trouble running HID on the stock wire harness (specifically the plug). A few people have also discussed the trouble w/ the HID ballast coming on when the key is turned, then being interrupted when the bike is started. A few circuits have been developed to delay the lights until the bike has been running for X-number of seconds, but they require an additional relay. You can find that discussion here>
I completely understand not wanting to have 2 different color headlights, and being tired of people telling you "One of your lights is out".
tarshi - those lights look sweet. are they 8000k? because they definately look like it. I have 8000k in my car and love them. I think i am going to be ordering both hi and low beam slim ballasts in 8000k.
I was worried about the constant on and off switching for the ballasts but honestly they are worth it and i doubt the ballasts will be shortened by much if any at all. If they do I will get new ones because money grows on trees right??? haha
Oh and i think i will order from xenonrider too!!!
TF1175 - It is 6K. I like 6K because balance of color and brightness. Higher kelvin become lower lumen. The cost about 40$ that include 2 set of HID. That why I don't care even life time shorter.
Just ordered a HID yesterday from xenonrider.com, and upgraded to the thinner ballast. website advertised the light as $119.00 and the upgrade ballast as an extra $15.00 , also free shipping. Went to checkout and the light was only $99.00, a bit later I got an email from them saying they are giving the upgraded ballast for free and refunded $15.00. so I got one single HID lamp kit for $99. Pretty good deal I thought, so I'm passing on this info in case somebody may be interested. I'll post some pics of before / after install.
I just ordered HID's from there as well. the reaosn why you got the 15 bucks off is because they are having a promotion till the end of the month where you get a free upgraded ballast on any HID kit purchase PLUS a free hat. sorry to burst your bubble and make you think that you were special haha.
Contrary to what my mommy and the driver of the short bus tell me, I didn't think the deal was special for me only, just passing along info to fellow BadWeb'ers.
