A few months ago I posted about my bike not starting, and then found that the cam sensor was destroyed somehow. Well, upon further investigation, I have learned that the crank, rods, pistons, cams etc ,all need replacing . That kind of rebuild was going to be huge $, so I recently acquired a much newer ,2007 1203 engine with about 7000kms compared to my grenaded 2004 984 with 50000kms. So my questions to you all.. First I will be needing a header for the 1203 , so if anyone knows where to find a good used one please let me know. I will consider new but only after I consume my search for a cheaper option. I wonder if a jet coating place would take my xb9 header as a core towards the exchange to a 12. Second, I have a special ops pipe and a race module and am wondering if these will work for me ? I might consider swapping the primary gears ,what are the pros and cons of doing this. also,Any other ideas as to what I should do while the bike is apart?? sorry to hear about your misfortune the primary gear swap has been done before, and i've heard nothing but good things about it. unless your all about the top speed. while it's apart, i'd buy the cheapest oven that still gets hot, and powder coat to my heart's content |

See if you can swap that 9 Race ECM for a 12 Race ECM. The 9 will do you no good. Primary gearing, hooligan stuff right there! |

You can alter the data in the ecm using ecmspy. You should be able to make a 9 ecm a 12. |

I`m not sure what to do with the heap of $#!+ ! I guess ,if it`s worth something to someone, I would sell it whole or in parts ,on Badweb first of course! .Ebay as a last resort. |

I took a picture of my engine at my mechanic`s shop. I know he would have done a great job repairing it, but at $3000.00 to $4000.00 for parts to fix plus labor and machining ,we thought it would be best to find a newer engine which was a lot less expensive. It`s too bad , I was really looking forward to him working on my bike!!

I've been wondering why the XB9 ECM wouldn't run with the XB12. You would need to remap it and change the timing of course If there is no reason that it won't run, you could capture XB12 spark and fuel map values and put them into the 9 ECM. It would be prudent to drop the rev limit, particularly with the 07. Before they could up the rev limit with ECMSpy I listened to a few XB12 riders dreaming of fitting XB9 Race ECMs to get higher revs for track days. It seemed doable. The new motor will have the XB12 primary pulley in it already so you won't need to do anything with the gearing. Jet coating while the pipes are off is a good idea. You might find an exchange service that is short on XB9 stock, and willing to do the change. I have a few sets of headers lying around, but I'm in the wrong country to be of any help. |

Well ,as it turns out , my new to me engine is coming with the XB12 race ecm!! I talked to Al at American sportbike and he said there is no way of reflashing and it being right , but now I don`t have to worry about that . XB9 ecm will be for sale. He also said that I can send my 9 header in as a core towards a 12 header , I`ll get one that is ceramic coated and I won`t have a useless 9 header laying around. I guess my only question is ,will my special ops pipe still work?? |

Has anyone tried an XB9 header on a 12? I know it should be more restrictive due to the smaller diameter but how would it effect the torque? |

I think Torque has a 9 header on his 12 with a CF Jardine and a 12 race ecm. Pulls just fine against my stock 12. |

Bombardier, I know a guy who had his 9 fitted with a bunch of 12 parts including crank, pistons, etc. essentially making it a 12 but with a 9s header. His dyno printout showed a significant boost in low end torque but ran out of breath high in the rev range above 5900 rpm or so. |

Well I picked up my new to me engine today! I had to drive to Vancouver, almost 950 Kms.(650m) round trip.It looks to be in good shape so as soon as I separate all the pieces to put it back in and make sure I have everything, then I`ll start thinking about selling it or parting it. Any idea what my old engine like that is worth? |
